The legend of Sao Paulo

Hey guys This is my latest track, called "The legend of Sao Paulo." It's kind of a modern jazz piece, and it's totally different to anything that I've ever done or tried to do before. Any feedback or criticisms would be much appreciated, and thanks for listening :) http://soundcloud.com/use...he-legend-of-sao-paulo Ali

Very cool tune man.  Sounds good on my AKG's.  Nice mix.  Very organic sounding...like it.

Awesome!  Great sound and atmosphere.  I would tone down the snare just a tad bit.

Thank you, and I will indeed tone down that snare a bit. It's funny though because on some setups it doesn't sound over powering at all, but then on others it does. Anyway a little volume reduction couldn't hurt it.

I like the rhythm thing at the intro and around 1:40. It's like a shaker or brush thing. What is that?
Anyway, I hated the drums pretty much. Just kind of obnoxious for the tune. I think something more subtle and tasty would work a lot better for the tune. Also, maybe add some incidentals to your chords to give them some depth. Either that, or, play a bass line that isn't the direct root of the chord. Mix sounds good.

Hey timidi, I left to go to Malta just minutes after I posted my last post so I didn't see yours. Thanks for the advice. Also at the begining it's just two brushes hitting the snare drum very lightly and also a ride symbol, possibly with brush but it's hard to tell actually. Sorry that you didn't like the rest of the drums :(

this is unusual but cool! i dunno, kinda 70s film soundtrack? the drums are ok, maybe a little too busy at times, but then that gives a sense of urgency which is otherwise absent, and they are almost a lead instrument here. very quirky, very cool! this would prob work almost as well with a chilled-out trip-hop drum beat and some lazy female vox a la Beth orton...

Thanks man. I was really intending for the drums to really stand out and be really prominent so I'm glad you liked it. Also I hadn't really thought about it as film music but now that you mention it I guess it kind of is :)
