Musically: I gave up the opportunity to travel to England in the mid 70's with the guitar palyer who said "That's where to make it". He did make it. I didn't (I'm here aren't I?).

Life: Was unable to handle life and fell into addictive behavior (for just over 10 years). On the plus side, as of today I've lived 2257 days without my addiction.

Musical (coz this is Cakewalk): Turned down the roll of bass player in a successful rock band. At the time, they were opening for my band on a tour while waiting for their album to come out. Six months later they were playing stadiums, a year later I was working for a bank. They're quite wealthy today, i'm not.

Non-Musical (coz there are no rules): When I was a teenager, I once injected vodka (sharing a needle with 3 friends). I didn't think anything of it until last year, when reading Nikki Sixx's autobiography and he emphasized his wildness with a similar anecdote. Wow, and I thought I was mostly sane and conservative...

ps. Bapu, congrats on 2257. Some addictions can be pretty rough...

"Not yesterday" can be great inspiration for "not today" which can lead "not tomorrow".
Which in time can add up to over 2257. Great job bapu.

I'll admit that I've done some pretty foolish things in my time. Some of them really stupid, even.
I'm not so foolish as to admit them publicly, though.

You guys are acting like a bunch of whimps!...I'll share a story from almost 20 years ago. (It's a copy/paste from a thread on my local car club)

    Here's my story:

I went to a party with a good friend and my girlfriend, he drove.

At said party drank 2 bottles of Boone's farm, a fifth of 100proof scnapps, and a couple of beers off the keg (by myself). Proceeded to get beligerent, and girlfriend all the sudden seemed promiscuos (sp)...then started accusing her of getting friendly with guys at the party. Then turned to brawling with several dudes and was ejected.

Walked home 15 miles...I was staggering down the middle of Woodridge drive when a cop stopped me and asked me if I was OK.

I proceeded with my drunken rage fueled story...and he drove off. Said friend passes me driving ex girlfriend home. I ran the last half-mile to my car, then drive over to his house...a few blocks away. Parked up on his lawn, then ran inside his house. His room was the basement, and the bathroom was at the bottom of the stairs.

I could hear someone splashing in the bath...then in my drunken rage, jealious stupor...busted in the door to said bathroom thinking my girlfriend and said friend were bathing together.

Got to see his father naked instead.

Went back outside to run into said friend in driveway...and fight ensues. While he laid on the driveway after I knocked his ass out, got back into car and did donuts on his lawn.

Got back onto 83rd street to head home, but was driving on the wrong side of the street at about 80mph.

Same cop pulls me over and asks me to do the alphabet while looking at my license. See's I live just yards to where he pulled me over...while I tell him I'm too wasted to get past "m". He offers I pull my car into the municipal lot across the street, and if my car moves before 7am he will arrest me...and let it slide.

This is the best I can recall of that night..

I stayed up till 7, got my car and went to White Castle for breakfast.

I'm stuck in the past, but my foot's tapping forward

I didn't marry the girl of my dreams. Instead I moved back to Boston (from DC, where I went to college and worked a bit afterwards). Brilliant move on my part. Haven't been truly happy since (this was in 2000).

I share that regret, except that if I had married her, I wouldnt have the kids I have right now. Dated through much of high school and on and off during college. I moved on. She was always there when i called.

Unfortunately she was killed in New Orleans 24 years ago when someone broke into her apartment. Can't go back on that one. Maybe the sweetest most caring woman I ever met. Never a day that goes by that I dont think of her. Damn

My friends and I did a ton of stupid stuff as teenagers - plenty of drunken fight stories, promiscuous girlfriends, volatile friendships, vengence and back stabbing drama - but the most foolish I think was trunk surfing on LSD.

We used to drive this 5 mile stretch of roadway in Oklahoma, called Red Bud Valley. It twists and turns and there are no lights and it's out in the boonies with houses judiciously sprinkled behind the thicket that cased each side of the road. Trunk surfing involved high speeds, killing the headlights while 3 or 4 of us stood in the trunk of the car while holding the trunk lid for balance. Yes, that's right, balance.

If that isn't foolish enough, my friends insisted that we close the trunk lid and lower ourselves down into the trunk area when a car passed us going the other direction. Trying to balance yourself, to keep from falling out while 3 other people are focing the lid down while the car is bouncing and shifting with the bumpy road is freaking ridiculous, and scared the crap out of me at the time. Then, last but not least, the icing on the cake was that the night we did this on acid, we had our girlfriends following us in their car - maybe 2 car lengths behind us - so if any of us fell out and survived the hit, we would be finished off by our sweethearts following us in their death mobile.

Brilliant huh? Needless to say, I'm keeping a close eye on my son..he's got too many of my genes.

A few years ago I was seeing this really hot girl some twenty years younger than me, we started dating not long after I'd had dentures fitted.

On the occasion of our first kiss it seemed kind of strange, which was the only explanation I can give as to why I came out with the killer line...

"Hey I've never kissed a girl with dentures before!"...

She must have found it quite endearing though as we went out for nearly a year after that.

Not the MOST foolish thing I can put my signature too by any means but it is an indicator of my capabilities in this particular area of expertise I seem to have been blessed with.

The most foolish thing I've ever done was buy, over the course of seven years, $185 billion* in guitars and gear without having a clue what I was going to do with it. I am poor and have no savings. I have $4* in my IRA and 32 cents* in my savings account.

    Still, it's been fun.

Okay, not the most foolish thing I've done (those mostly involved those life endangering things boys do), but when in 1976 I was 15 and buying my first electric guitar. The salesman was steering me toward a used, red, Gibson ES335 for $300, but no, I wanted one that looked like a rock guitar and got the SG Special for $300 (the bottom of the line SG). That ES335 hollow-body would be worth a fortune by now and, of course, shortly after I didn't buy the ES335, Ted Nugent hit it big almost making hollow-bodies cool.

As for some of the other posts, at a young age I heard someone say what it takes to be successful in music, it was something like "Talent, Luck, Persistence, Luck, Contacts, Luck... oh and a little luck."
