The most unlikely song sung on AI.
This year's chick rocker (Elise Testone) did Bold as Love by Jimi Hendrix. All in all it was a very good version. Slightly funked up with a bit of scatting. Daring in my opinion. LINK

While brave... not a good choice of music.... especially now that the field is really getting narrow. Now is the time to be choosing wisely the songs one sings with the goal of leaving the audience totally amazed. IMHO, last night none of the remaining contestants really shined like they needed to. It was at best mediocre. Randy commented on both of the "daring" song choices and his comments indicated a word of warning...not a time to be experimenting. there is business to take care of, then, once you have won, experiment and be daring and edgy all you want.

It will at least be interesting to see if they are in the "bottom three". Personally I hope that Jessica goes home. I do not see why the judges adore her. Personally my top three are (in order) Joshua, Elise, Phillip followed by (in order) Hollie, Skylar and (ugh) Jessica (that save was so feckin' wrong IMO).

I agree - they were all pretty average last night. My top three would be Joshua, Skylar, Phillip - the country thang is not my bag baby but I think she has tons of charisma

I think the competition this year is Joshua's to lose. That kid is good. Jessica could very well go to the top two. They both have the best voices in the competition. Phillip is the most original but his voice is not on the level of the two "J's"

On looks alone I think Hollie should win. She is just soooooo damned cute and elegant at the same time. But, as the judges say, she's technically excellent but she is just too reserved.

My take on Phillip and Elise is that they are pretty sure Joshua will win and at this point they want to show other sides of themselves and be daring in hopes of attracting industry buzz/attention. One thing the public does not know is to what degree the top <insert number here> are bound to American Idol and it's affiliates (i.e. record labels, producers etc.) after the season is over. So with that in mind my above statement could be true (and Phillip and Elise are oblivious) or false (and Phillip and Elise are now just following their vision).

It's interesting to see what they work on. You can see improvement over the season to be sure. With Jessica her voice started great and stayed that way. Most of her improvement seems to be focused on image since that stupid save. Many people buy cars, guitars and music, based soley on appearance. Record companies want artists that can sell breakfast cereal and soap flakes as much as they want artists. The Hendrix song was a bit of a poor choice. I loved it but she might have connected with more people if it was something like Little Wing.

Her interpretation of Bold As Love was horrible. Having said that, she absolutely rocked Whole Lotta love a couple of weeks ago.

Looks like the Hendix tune was the undoing of Elise. And Holly was in the bottom 2 as well. The top 3 were the right ones. IMHO. Lets see who gets a ticket home next week. Of all the ones left, they will all probably attract industry attention. Most of the top 10 do. They all get to go one the tour. The questions is after that first CD release....... who will retain the industry and the public's attention? So far only a very small handful of AI winners and runners up have managed to make it with a successful career. Successful being defined as winning awards from the record industry and the annual shows, as well as having multiple successful hits on radio. Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood are the two that come to mind currently. The rest.... who even remembers their names?
