The new CA Guitar Amps in Platinum are GREAT !! Thank You Craig !!!
Previously, I was having a hard time getting my old Strat to sound decent through TH2. Here is another great reason to update!

I briefly tried to test out those tones yesterday, but was only able to see (not hear) Craigs Presets via the FX chain. Do I need to open up TH2 and then load one of Craigs presets? or can someone please tell me the exact path to load up these sims?

The only place to find them is in the Browser under "audio FX". You can drag one into the Pro Channel. Here's the path: "C:\Cakewalk Content\SONAR Platinum\FX Chain Presets\CA-X Amps Producer\CA-X Amps ReadMe.rtf" Oh yeah, is your input monitor switch ON?

I plugged my guitar in, made sure it was making a noise in Sonar and dragged over one of the new FX into the FX bin and different noises came through my monitors. It all seemed so simple I was quite impressed with them apart from "Sparkle" as it wasn't all that sparkly. Grum.

How are you guys hooking your guitars up to Sonar? I've been micing my amp - but it sounds like you guys are putting a direct line into the computer. I'm still new to this... I was looking at something like this - but it sounds like you guys are doing something different: http://www.sweetwater.com...hJzGt8MCFdcXgQodAqsA7w

I plug my guitar directly into my audio interface ( Focusrite2i4) and then use whatever amp sim (Amplitube 3, GR5 etc..) I have. Of course there are plenty of USB powere audio interfaces out there, but I can highly recommend Focusrite products. Mike, what do you use for an audio record/playback?

I just tried it with Audacity and the guitar went right in... Must be something in Sonar. This would be awesome if you guys could help me figure this out!

Whatever input Audacity is using to "hear" the guitar, a Sonar audio track needs to be set with that as input. Output to Master as usual.
To hear the guitar you also need to enable the "input echo" switch on the audio track. It looks a bit like (((. That will pass the incoming guitar back out to your interface after passing it through any plugins on that track via the master bus. The volume of the guitar's return is set by the volume slider on the audio track.
After which, assuming your system's round trip latency is low enough, that should be it.
One thought on latency. Some plugins require huge latancy to do their job so Sonar slows everything down so they can keep up. Convolution reverbs and compressors with look-ahead functions are the main culprits. If you insert a plugin and all of a sudden there's a big wait between playing and hearing the guitar when everything was fine before, you've probably just found a plugin with high latency requirement,

The Grumbleweed I was quite impressed with them apart from "Sparkle" as it wasn't all that sparkly.
If you want bright amp sounds, try these settings. The key with Sparkle is to select Cone for the miking instead of Edge, drop the mids a bit at 450 Hz as well as the bass, and crank up the treble. The Funk amp can actually give a brighter sound, with a bit of grit, if you make the same tweaks as for Sparkle and turn the triggered wah off. Let me know if either of these tweaks give the kind of Sparkle you want. If so, I could change the Sparkle default to be more sparkly and make that an update. If not...well, it looks like I'll be doing an "Amp of the Month" for members, so if you can be a little more specific as to what you want that might be an opportunity to create another custom amp.

Thanks Craig!! These are very good and useful. Regarding "Amp of the Month": How about the Hughes & Kettner Tubmeister 18? (just reading about the real deal in the Hardware forum made me want one......at least a sim for now).

Actually my amps are not intended to emulate existing amps, but to create plug-and-play, "idealized" amps that exist only in the virtual world. For example the Sparkle amp is sorta "Vox-ish," but mashed up with an old Magnatone amp-type vibrato, a more traditional tone stack, and optional bass enhancement. Among the existing amps the closest to the Tubemeister at a relatively high gain setting would be the Hard Rock amp, or the High Gain with the drive backed off.

That's got more "Sparkle"! I had a little experiment and substituted the vibrato with a Line 6 Pod Farm chorus and both sound remarkably similar - I thought the chorus would be sweeter. Kudos! Anyhoo, thanks for responding and thanks for the new FX. Grum.

Thanks for the follow-up. I think it might be worth changing the Sparkle initial preset...it seems a lot of people are just dragging these in an using them. That's great - I'm trying to make people's lives easier. But, there's always room for improvement.

I am new to Sonar, and have Professional. I am not able to drag and drop the CA-X amps from the Browser into the FX chain box. I get the circle with diagonal line through it attached to the amp name when I try the drag and drop. What do I need to do? Is the Anderton stuff not activated in my system, by any chance? Your help would be appreciated. I am a little frustrated by the lack of documentation and instruction throughout this software. For much of it, I have had to rely on YouTube videos of much older versions of Sonar for instruction. It seems as though the assumption is that everyone already knows how to use the software and no information is needed. Thanks, again, Glen

CA-X amps are FX Chains. Nesting FX Chains is not supported. Drag the CA-X amp to a ProChannel or FX rack.
