The old staff view subject
I don't really want to stir up the issue with the notation features lacking in all Cakewalk products. I would just like to submit a particular issue with clefs! Ever since I have been around Cakewalk products, I have used the staff view extensively. PLEASE, in the next version or pretty soon, GIVE US A C CLEF! I write a lot of string parts and it is very distracting to not see the correct clef for violas. I know this is a small issue, probably not worth mentioning for some. For those of us who do extensive soundtrack work with orchestra it would be nice just to be able to print a quick score for violas with the proper clef. I have wanted to submit this idea for a long time, I hope now it will be considered. Thanks, guys.

This ability will also help people who are unfamiliar with staff. The better staff works the less intimidating it will be to people who don't use staff much. As I see it... one has to be incredibly well versed on a staff to be able to understand the staff view gotchas. If you don't see the gotchas and think everything is cool at face value then things get doubly confusing. Which is the opposite of what someone using a computer to manage a score is hoping to encounter. Good Luck. best regards, mike

I am not asking for a full notation program, but the staff view has far too many bugs and quirks. i do the majority of my work there and it is annoying to struggle with bugs that have been there since version 2. Example: I can select the note value (e.g., quarter) but may or may not get a quarter note with the pencil. I have to enter notes, right click to change values, and then copy+drag them. Picking a note value and entering it is such a basic function that I am amazed it does not work.

Are you saying that X1 left it out????? Jerry Gerber www.jerrygerber.com

Hey Sidroe, I just spoke with someone at Cakewalk and asked him to look at Sonar's staff view clef options. He said all the clefs are there: bass, treble, alto, tenor, treble 8va, percussion, etc. I have no idea why you cannot find the viola (alto) clef, but it is there. It would be also cool if the staff view could view more than 24 staves! in these days with gigabytes and gigahertz that shouldnt be a problem.

I'm sorry I missed the alto reference. All this time I scratched my head over this. I thank you all for your response. I still say this is the best forum around.

-Definable handling of multiple voices -Separate note entry/grid values -Better position of notes on staves so staves to not cross over each other Please show us notation love Cakewalk.

I always thought the C clef was movable. I'll have to double check that. I normally don't use it. I could read one key but play another but I could never get used to the C clef.
