Ahh ... the paradiddlediddle, a great rudiment and many a drummer's favorite.

3 paradiddlediddles followed by 4 alternating stroke 16th notes fit nicely over the Allman Brother's 11/8 intro to Whipping Post.

Examples of Paradiddlediddle versus a Paraparadiddle ...

In this example I establish an 11/8 groove by playing RLLRLLRLLRL with da feet (I added a tambourine to my hihat to embellish the effect).  For counting purposes count: 12312312312.  I add the paradiddlediddle with the hands (RLRRLL) on top of the feet after 2 measures and play 3 paradiddlediddles followed by a RLRL to keep the whole thing in 11/8.  The paradiddlediddles are very smooth and comfortable to play (that is why they are a favorite).

In this second example, this is something I have been screwing around with for the last few weeks as a possible bridge section for a song.  Again, as above, it is an 11/8 ostinato with da feet but, I am using a more challenging rudiment pattern.  I am playing 3 paraparadiddles followed by a paradiddle (RLRLRR LRLRLL RLRLRR LRLL).  Definitely not as fluid sounding but I think very cool and I think with the right bass hook it could really cook (I just don't know where I can find a bass player).
