Yeah, it's nice to see those that are new to the Olympics and get a medal. For some of them it's like just another day at the office. Yeah, some soccer players do like to flop huh? I got into watching soccer for a while. I remember one that was like you said, he was writhing around, they helped him up and a team mate started him towards what was assumed to be the locker room. He waived his friend off and continued limping badly until the instant he crossed the edge of the field then he swiveled on his 'bad' leg, smiled and starting running back to the bench (sorry if I don't know the correct terms). Obvious flop was obvious! Go Arsenal! (maybe that is too political for here)

I played both sports. I didn't understand the acting requirements (French tactics) of soccer (what the unwashed masses call football) so, when I performed an awesome slide-tackle only to have my opponent kick my foot instead of the ball resulting in a broken toe, I ran to the sideline (touch area for you non-US types) and quickly took my shoe off (boot for those that don't know the difference), straightened the toe (or foot finger if you're from Liverpool), wrapped it to the one next to it with some tape from our trainer (the medical staff for those who failed that IQ test), then ran back onto the field (a.k.a., the pitch). Boy did I pay for that later! Oh well... We can talk about the over 220 stitches I got from playing hockey some other time (the most for one injury was 29).

But the US and UK more than most it would seem! The UK media have been insufferable however, for example repeatedly replaying a British third and barley mentioning the winner, let alone showing them. They did however give some recognition to Usain Bolt and Michael Phelps, must have been on slow news days.

The coverage here in the states has been insufferable too. They showed entirely too many fluff pieces. With all the various events going on during the day and evening, they are showing life stories and lengthy interviews during primetime. Not to mention all the friggin' commercials... ugh. It's Bombastic Comcastic!

I think I may have seen 20 minutes total of these Olympics (on someone else's TV). I'm surprising myself at how little I'm missing watching TV now that I don't have one.
