YES THIS PLEASE! I've lost so many sounds and hours of work trying to rebuild frickin' lost data from semi-corrupt project files. Boo, hiss.

I would like a utility that will extract and display info from a project file without opening the project, info such as:
  • Plugins used (and their version numbers)
  • Plugin settings
  • Audio files used

Excellent ideas Kev.
I would also like to add;
A more intuitive Audio-Snap. Maybe it's time to scrap the existing AS and start with a fresh slate.

Not a bad idea (I have 4 screens).

Speaking of MultiDock, I have an issue with the tab labelling.  I would really like the text on each of the MultiDock tabs to be shorter or abbreviated.  In most of my projects I have a screenset where PRV for each midi track is docked in the in the MultiDock.  The text on each tab begins "Piano Roll - " followed by the name of the instrument.  This takes up a lot of width and results in the need for scrolling when there are a lot of tabs.  It would help if the text "Piano Roll" could be abbreviated to "PRV" or "PR".

Worse still, if there is more than one track selected in PRV, the tab text is always displayed as "Piano Roll: multiple tracks".  I often have several of these and there is no way of distinguishing them.  It would be useful if the tab text was editable and I could change it to "PRV brass" or whatever.

More Pro Channel plug ins that fly out or expand into larger screens with more controls....that would be sweet. The new eq is great, just design them around that.

Since I can only imagine that any X4 wishlist is already locked down, I thought I be ahead of the curve on this one.

Me?

1. Nested folders. (I'll be soooooooo embarrassed if this in X4)
2. Fully workable drum maps with the ability to import/export .xls(x) map data

I think the users have been asking for these 2 items for...what???  3 years?  longer on the drum maps.

the drum maps have needed a major overhaul since the last decade.

wish list uhmm ... let me see..

1. no demo songs
2. No loops ( audio library ) "optional download" for those that want it !
3. just a few VSTi's : Rapture / z3ta+ / session drummer and sfz player
4. main VST plugins, that is shipped with Sonar

To say it simple :
A tiny Sonar with a max file size of  300 -500 Mb

Don't need, all the unnecessary stuff i never use.

And yes i would do pay the same price for it still
it should be possible ...

I'll ask yet again for the one feature we commercial broadcast folks really need:

SWIPE TIME SELECTION

Where you can just swipe over any length of a clip or track and Sonar will tell you it's total time.  When you're dealing all day with 15, 30 and 60 second increments you need to be able to quickly ascertain timings of reads, etc...  Using a stopwatch is so 20th century.  Or this morning as far as I'm concerned.  Sheesh.

https://soundcloud.com/doghouse-riley/tracks
https://doghouseriley1.bandcamp.com
Where you come from is gone...where you thought you were goin to weren't never there...and where you are ain't no good unless you can get away from it.

How bout bring back an old feature that was useful ( NOW TIME  in the control bar).. AIM ASSIT is cool but the numbers are a lot smaller than it was in the control bar.

Hook Up the loop construction view where as we would never need an external sampler..

re-amp integration, just like Pro-Tools have if you have the Eleven Rack.

Can you elaborate? Sonar inherently reamps with sims because the track is recorded dry. If you use the external insert plug-in, you can feed it out to amps or whatever, and treat the external gear as a plug-in. So I'm not sure what it is you can't do.

FYI in case you hadn't heard, Avid has released an Eleven editor (64-bit, even) so you don't have to use Pro Tools to edit it any more...and Eleven will work as an ASIO interface with Sonar.

The first 3 books in "The Musician's Guide to Home Recording" series are available from Hal Leonard and http://www.reverb.com. Listen to my music on http://www.YouTube.com/thecraiganderton, and visit http://www.craiganderton.com. Thanks!

Can you not do this by making the Transport module visible and repeatedly clicking on the numeric part until it changes to time?  If you keep the time display in the track view header showing musical time, you can have two "types" of time measurement available simulataneously.

Zoom audio tool: similar to the midi magnifier

Save and import Track templates with DATA to be able to combine projects
And then the ability to fully combine projects

Meters: dialog to show, and change, save presets, of all meter settings.
Meters have more options than gadgets.
Meters change with screen sets, so need presets
takes about 30 clicks to change to my preference

Track dividers/spacers for TV and CV
    half track height (or less)
      expandable,  to display note gadget
       colorable

A "SHOW DESKTOP" button that minimizes ALL windows to only show the Track view.

More color change for the selected bus. What's up with these little yellow outlines?

console changes
short fader: 1/2 current height, move to left
   meter under fader
move  value, icon, pan to where meter is now
this will provide more space for displaying more sends,...
-------------------------------
Option to show/hide section headings: I/O a real waste of space
-------------------------------
Flat PAN gadget instead of knob  less vertical space, quicker to read

===============

Fix the auto save function to always include the date and time before the extension

I WANT A SAVE-AS BUTTON!!!!

It's amazing how many of my wish list features have not changed in years.
  • audiosnap 3.0
  • varispeed
  • selecting MIDI track will auto-sense the audio track of a soft synth on bounce or export
  • multi-track discreet bouncing as a single function (select the tracks, they bounce to individual tracks)
  • keyboard shortcut to expand a track (with rubber-band auto-height!)
  • plugin preset batch save/export
  • "replace synth" will try and implement patch settings (in case it's a newer version of the same synth)
  • fix all the weirdo behaviors with tracks and lane jumping on insert or re-ordering...in fact the ability to have options for "insert above, insert below, insert at end" for new track creation
  • Matrix View 2.0 would be great too, but I don't really use 1.0 so I'm "meh" about it.
  • ability to pop out the quad curve plot flyouts. Yeah it'll get crowded when I leave a billion of them open but that's my problem. :-)

I would like a visual 3D spectrum graph that can be added to a submix.   Left to Right, is a graph showing power (height)/frequency bar chart.  Front to back are the channels that are in the submix.  Add the ability to rotate and zoom in/out on the display. Add a coloring mechanism that shows the peek channel in each of the graphs frequency points on the top of the point ...  Above that graph one could toggle on and off a summed spectrum graph...

Course it could already be in there and I would have missed it.

MIX VERSIONS:
I'm wishing that someday a feature called MIX VERSIONS will be implemented. My vision about MIX VERSIONS is having an unlimited number of mixes/settings in a single project/song/cwp file. Meaning you can recall a certain mix within a project with a push of a button. You store a particular mix version in a button, With this implemented, you can cycle thru a certain mix with a push of button. Maybe you have a mix with lower bass or a whatever you desire. If possible, automation(vol, pan, mute, etc.....) and plugin setting can also be stored in a mix version with a corresponding description text. IT WILL BE A GREAT FEATURE. :-) At least for me.

I wonder if this feature is already implemented in ProTools.

This is similar to the SCREENSHOT feature.

+ 100 on Audio Snap...it's fallen way behind and is still quirky.

Here's one for yourolpal and all us broadcast guys...how about a timer separate from the Now time that we can control when doing script reads that has a hot key to reset to 0.

Some off the top of my head:
1) Better (and on the fly/drag) time stretching algorithm.
2) BPM detection
3) Better video support
4) Free copy of Sonar x4 Power! (Scott should get the information he needs while in development so the book can launch with Sonar)

Also, if you're going to add more third party softsynths, I would request new selections rather than the same ones that came in previous versions.

iZotope, FabFilter, Omnisphere or ProjectSAM stuff would all be awesome (and wishful) plugins to add into Sonar Producer
