it's been that way for a couple of years.

the reason is because the word which is spelled by the letters S P I and C spell a derogatory slang term.

I could see blocking it if it was used by itself, but I think it's ridiculous when those letters are being used as part of a bigger word.

Yes. Can't refer to S****horpe either, even though it's just a Lincolnshire town.

Filtering s u s p i c i o u s because of letters contained with it is just incredibly sloppy design. You can understand them scanning strings for bad words within because people may try to bypass the filter by putting extra letters before and after the word, but surely they could make an exception in cases where the complete string is a real word. Dammit if we were talking about sumo wrestling, I couldn't even say maku****a or a****ori without being censored. How inconvenient is that?

More relevant, a string player could not talk about issues in recording spiccato technique.  Nor could a prog fan discuss Lark's Tongue in Aspic without being censored. Or how to add a little bit of spice to a track.

The forum would censor you if you were to do something like give support to a fellow member who was in hospice.  I find that despicable.

In short, it should be perspicuous that the software filter could use a bit of adjustment.

I'm certain they could make the exception if they took the time and had the desire.  forums always have a place where you can list forbidden words.  this one likely was a default word put in by APG and it's likely that the admins have never edited the word list, or if they have they didn't delete this default word.   I know there are much more inappropriate words which can be typed without censoring which are not in the database but probably should be.

The correct spelling is susplicious.

What I find hilarious is every time it blots out those four letters it just draws attention to what those four letters spell outside the context of the word. IOW, it draws attention to the very slur it's trying to censor.

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.
