Thief - a demo

https://soundcloud.com/bats-brew/thief-demo1

a working demo, i'm going to re-do this one from scratch...
any comments on arrangments or drum suggestions would be cool
i want to keep it short...
but i might could lengthen the breakdown at 1:40, for example...

edit:

also, does this guitar sound work for you?

Love your playing bat.  The solo break is awesome.  Sonically, lots and lots of upper mids.  Not crazy about the distorted tones except in the arpeggio parts - those are killer.
I say go for the redo.

Couldn't make out all the lyrics.  Everything was kinda bunched up in the middle.  Lots of sibalence on the lead voc.

bat,  this is a demo???  Sounds pretty dang good to me as is.  Love the guitar tones, the playing, the vox, the mix.  Fun song, not too long to be boring but a lot of cool stuff packed into it.  Can't wait to hear the final version.

Yeah, doesn't sound like a demo to me either! But you always do a great job on your mixes. I like the guitar tones, and the drums. Picking is killer, and nice arrangement.

Don't know if you're old enough to remember them, but this puts me in mind of Captain Beyond. I always liked them a lot.

Definitely worthy of you further attention not quite got that Gonzo polish that these furry ears are use to hearing but then as you say it is a demo.  As noted the lead tone is cool but the vox is a little lost.

The demo is pretty good Bat. This is a subjective call, I think the drums could be a bit more out there or up front. Maybe just a small more amount of thud on the bass drum and a bump up for the rest. I'm hearing the attack of the bass drum but not much meat to it on this end on my ATH M50s. Maybe bring out more dynamics? The guitars are really good as usual.

Great tune. I like the feel.

Notation, the original DAW. Everything else is just rote. We are who we are and no more than another. Humans, you people are crazy.

first off, thanks to all of you that listened and commented.
as i said, this is a demo, it's an older one, and i wanted to vett it here to see if it was worthy of a re-do.

the guitars, were done with a POD XT, all direct, and the drums were done with an old-school drum machine, a ZOOM 123.
i was curious to see how people would respond to the 'fake' guitars.

this was always just a demo, so i can re-arrange or do whatever i want with it, but i like the arrangement as it is...
so i may simply keep it the same, but with new modern drums (Superior, unless i find a willing victim to submit to real drum recording..) and updated guitar sounds.

    rimshot
that solo is fun, it just kinda opens up, with the arrangment the way it is.
like a call and response, with the vocal part....
i never got on with the pod, i tried, and tweaked almost every parameter i could get to, but to no avail.
i still like the clean tones off of it..but could never find 'my voice' in it.
vocals were quickly done, i had the compressor squashing them, so even when i bring them up, it doesn't translate well.
just another lesson in gain staging and 'getting it right' going in.
since it was just a demo session, i just let it go.

    creating noise
    yes, a demo.
    but fully realized.
sometimes i do it like this, really analyzing it after the fact, and go in with different directions...
and sometimes i just make a single pass, and let it go.

    rscain
yes, i know captain beyond well.
i had a 'girlfriend' in jr. high, that loved captain beyond, and needless to say, i fell into line.
    LOL

vox lost, check. lead tone cool, i'll try to find a tone in my boogie, that is similar to that...
i THINK that tone, was based on a soldano model, so it may be hard to find the same timbre.
    but i'm gonna try!

    starise
drums, yes, this was a throwaway drum track, so i'll do some serious programming now..
and i have a kit that i've built, that i think will be perfect for the drums.

thanks for listening, i'll post updates to the new version as soon as i get there.
i've got about 5 different projects going at once now, and am warming up to a third album.
