Things Fall Apart. The Center Does Not Hold.
My ancient XP DAW computer has been acting up lately. Sometimes it doesn't see the Saffire, slow starting and roundy-round cursor forever.
Then the mouse stopped working. Then the keyboard. Reboots usually fixed the glitches, but tonight, the thing wouldn't start at all. The first time there was a lot of what looked like static over fast-flowing numbers on the screen. The cursor was inoperative but I couldn't see anything to click on anyway.
Rebooting several times resulted in an ear-piercing whine and no video output.
Even though it's only 10, I think it's dead.
Thank goodness I backed my projects up recently.
But wait! There's more!
My ancient Yamaha keyboard has stopped making noises. It still sends and receives MIDI, but there is no output. I figured it was probably a solder joint that broke, so I tried to open it up and take a look. Say what you want about Yamaha's low-cost PSR line, but they sure built them strong. Well, 15 years ago they built them strong. I think I'll probably need a sledge hammer to get into it.
So, now I need to find an audio interface that works with my Win 10 64-bit computer and a new keyboard, too. I could get a FireWire card, but I don't think Focusrite has Win 10 drivers for the Saffire.
On the plus side, I did win $1 in the lottery today.
A fresh start. Charge!
