Beagle, I agree with you!!! A month or so ago my printer - a HP wireless multifunction disaster - had a date with my bat. Damn that thing annoyed the living sh!t out of me!!! I have the pieces boxed up and ready to send to HP. Just waiting for the support return thing to arrive (I've been a little slow). I wish I could see their faces when they open it I'm geting something else next time. I'm so dern addicted to printed paper still. I can't believe why they make EVERYTHING between the computer and the printer it self so incredibly malfunctioninglyannoyingirritatinganddownrightuseless@80Gb

Beagle 4) why does software installed on windows systems require a reboot for installation or uninstallation? why can't it just be done with windows running? is windows so blasted screwed up that adding or removing a few registry entries it can't handle it without reboot? Correct, you answered your own questions.

Hi, Easy ... because HP wants to make sure that you are in their list of addresses and emails that they can spam. I got mad at HP for that and removed the software for the scanner ... and wouldn't you know it, the scanner software doesn't like NOT to have the utility that contacts HP every time you use the scanner. But there is some information that goes to HP every time the lamp in the scanner goes on. Makes you feel really good for all the porno that you and I are scanning, I guess! I'm not sure that we can get anywhere here until we do what micro-radio did in California that got a judge to tell the FCC ... that if they wanted to come to court and stand up for an idea or case, at least be prepared to say something instead of nothing and not even discuss the issues at hand. The real issue was that a bunch of graduate kids from Cal and Stanford made the FCC look like idiots! We just need to get the same thing done with some of these big companies until they are so embarassed that ... they will lose millions of dollars ... with one problem ... the latent effect is that some friends of ours will lose their jobs, but then ... HP and many others have been using Mexico and other countries so they only have to pay folks 2 dollars per hour and kick them in the butt if they don't like it ... and I'm supposed to feel sorry for that company? Apple is one of the worst companies at this ... but everyone loves them! In the old days, there was a serious issue with Kennecott-Anaconda, and you know the real situation right? ... they went to Chile and stole and bought the silver and copper for 3 cents and then would bring it to Mexico and America to make some forks and then sell them back at 25 cents each. And the owners of the company were famous American folks that were revered for their fame and fortune ... ripping off others! All in all ... grin and bear it? You can't win the battle as long as the "power" in business and congress is as "corrupt" as anything else you ever didn't like or want to know. It was the same thing in Portugal during the Fascist days. It was the same thing in Brazil when the military took over and we were there ... luckily in a city too small and far away from all the BS -- because we could have been pointed at since we left Portugal and my dad's writings against the Fascist ideas were notorious and an issue ... but it was done in Poetry and by supporting the "subversive" artists like Fellini, Anotnioni, Kazan, Brando's aand all that ... but it is meaningless today ... even though what is happening is the same thing in a different medium! The government -- now disguised as a company -- is still checking up on everyone. For whatever reason, it is legal for them to do so, but not for you ... and this is the reason why I am so against lotteries and such ... if you and I do a lottery, we go to jail for life ... but the government and state can rob you legally under the "excuse" of "fun" and a chance to gain a billion, that is so obviously manipulated ... that it is sick ... totally sick, and only ___________ folks would want to realize how badly they were taken in for! You want worse? ... Admin and such folks in software companies. are lying to you more than you will want to admit. Here is one of the best examples ... "we never ask for your password" ... they don't flipping need it! ... they invented the software that has your information and they can see it without having to login to your "account" ... so in essence the wording and statement is a lie, to make you believe that your account is "secure" ... when the point is that if your account was not secure, neither would be their system! ... so you know that is one of those oxymoron information that everyone thinkis is important ... but not to an admin ... that is "already inside" the software! The whole thing is too malicious and gets me mad ... as you can tell ... I have no issues whatsoever with beacan/bapu or any other bs in this board, but you can tell how I feel about the government allowing you to be scammed and controlled. And the media making it look like you don't know nothing and you're stupid anyway! And defending the company, of course! Blade Runner ... my friend ... the things I have seen, the places I have been, ... my friend ... time to die! You just don't know how true and important that is for us all ... but it doesn't matter anymore ... we're all replicants anyway!

HP is the devil was spoken here in an earlier post, this is true. We used to be a 3COM shop, had no problems with buying switches, or getting tech support from 3com. Now HP buys 3com and its all out the window, no clear product line, confusion abounds and frustration increases. We are looking at other network gear now, we already have switched to Aruba for our wireless. @ Bub , please don't get frustrated, love him or hate him, Pedro will always be Pedro.. nuff' said. @JulieBee, if you were in marketing you would understand, it gripes me also that I can buy a low or mid end printer for either the same or few dollars more than the cost of a printer .ALSO, when the demons created the smart print cartridge that knows when its empty and will not accept a refill and send the printer a message its full..

I sent a box full of printer pieces today - at the expense of HP support with a message saying "some piece has fallen off". Can't wait to get the response to that from HP You should have seen the face of the guy at the post office when he heard the rattling inside of it! Does anyone know of a printer brand that is somewhat reliable without such insane amounts of neccesary bloat ware to have it do something?

I hassled with many printers and expensive ink refills and even the pain of refilling cartridges until I got a cheap Dell. It is the old model of these. It has not given me one single problem--not sure how many years I've had it and it prints great. A great thing is I don't print often but the cartridges have never plugged. I think it does a little spray every so often to keep them ready.

Ah, Brother - if they still make color ink printers that's probably worth looking into. Thanks Beagle! Spacey, isn't the Dell ones just rebranded HP's? They used to be IIRC. But that's another good suggestion. A nerd friend recommended checking out Lexmark. I had one of those years ago but the cartridges were really small. I also hear Canon is getting really bloated...
