Think Again w/ Mark Courter on lead

Well, here I am again; resurrected from obscurity ! Haven't been doing much recording lately, but finally got around to putting one together......so here it is. Special thanks to Mark Courter for some great lead guitar work that put some really sweet touches to it. The title is "Think Again" and you can hear it at any of the site listed below. Comment and critique are always welcome.

Well Mr. Durod, I was very surprised to hear the double-tracked vocals. This sounds like a different direction for you. I had to listen to this twice. There are parts where the vox, bass and kick all produce a bit too much low -end, so a little judicial use of a hi-pass filter would even things out a bit for you. Like this tune very much. You've got a lot of different flavors in this (especially with your vox) and it shows your creative and mixing skills have gone up a few notches. Mark's lead guitar was the right thing to add to this. Very tasty and expressive and complimented the song. Good to see you back man!

Glad to see you with something new! Well I will say that this isn't one of your stronger songs IMO, but I do like how you seem to be pushing yourself out of your comfort zone a little on this one, doing something a little different. Mark's guitar is great.

I like the song. Great concept for a tune.

During the solo ( which was pretty good) the bass seemed to fall out a bit... The first part had a nice sound. The bridge had a totally different sound to it. (sonically ..... kinda like it was recorded on a different day with different settings)

Perhaps that was your intention..... just my 2 cents.

    Good job...the recording was clean.

Larry: Thanks so much, and it's good to be back. I'm trying to take a little more time on my songs and think outside the box, so I really appreciate your comments on the differences from my normal.

Dave: Thanks for your honesty and your comments. Thanks for all your help in '08.

Herb: Yea, I was going for a pretty drastic change when I got to the chorus; so from your comment I think I accomplished my goal! Thanks so much for the listen and comments.

I think the drums in the second part need a little more bottom end... the snare was very thin. The lead guitar was nicely played.

Duane, I love these lyrics! Very creative. Mark did a great job on the lead. I've always wanted to try double tracking vox too. I thinks its a neat effect. I honestly enjoyed listening to this just as is.

    The music sounds great.

But the lyrics are the typical misconception of what evolution is all about. Those that understand evolution will never say that man descended from the ape. Man just had the same ancestors as the apes had, but evolved along a different path. In other words, we are related to apes, not their offspring nor their descendents.

Big D: Comment are very much appreciated. Yes, I'm having a hard time getting the snare to sound right. Mark did a great job on the lead didn't he.

Tom: Hello friend, glad you enjoyed it and thanks much for the listen.

Ron: Hey Ron, thanks for listening and for your insight. I don't typically get involved in these type discussions, but I feel I have to say just one thing in response to this one. I was created in the image of my Father and Creator...........God, and He calls me his child . Therefore, I'm not related to an ape, but instead to the One who always was and always will be. We will all know the truth one day and have you ever thought..................what if it's true????

Duane - I think overall it's one of your better mixes, and I'm happy with the way you mixed my guitar track into the song.

Y'all, I appreciate all the positive comments on the guitar bit. I'm working hard at expression.

Ron - I'm not going to take sides here, but, come on, dude. You need to write a song in rebuttal!

    Finally found it ...

    I love this ... alot!

Talking --> Singing and the middle 8 lead-guitar (which might be widened?)

Lyrically, your song seems to emphatically follow Hebrews 11:1-4 ... essentially a non-evolutionistic God is parsimonious science and the first criteria of faith. In Alabama, you're singing to the choir. Most everyone is ashamed to talk "evo-trash" (except at funded Alabama universities); ToE-geologists and biologists have about lost all credibility. The ToE seems to thrive better in more socialistic communities, *Christian* or otherwise.

The strong hook for me in Think Again is the short lyrical simplicity that this mega-universe is 'impossible to have evolved by chance' ... everything and every person in it ... the invisible God does it all. Such hooks are extremely difficult, methinks; but well worth the work you put into them. You didn't sing abstract Creo arguments (e.g., "ID", "No new genetic info", "Entropy", "Ex-nihilo", etc.) to win hearts. My 5 y/o can easily sing with Think Again !

    Hi, Duane,

Cool song, with a really different "flavor", I like it a lot. I think the quirky tempo and instrumentation changes along with your strong vocals and Mark's great lead guitar solos make the whole song stand out very well. Mark's guitar sound on the second solo sort of reminds me of Alvin Lee's tone from Ten Years After, ala "Let The Sky Fall".

Very unique, nice job! Merry Christmas and best wishes to both you and Mark!

Phillip: Glad you liked this one and thanks for the great comments. It seems that it's the simple lyrical hooks that really stick with people, especially when put with a good groove; I'm still working on that! I kind of went out on a limb on this one since it can be such a sore subject................thanks for your support.

Bob: Your comments mean more than you realize, since I'm really trying hard to break out of my mold. Thanks so much and Merry Christmas back at ya'.

Hey I'm back too! Well this song is pretty nice, I especially liked the guitars.
Also I gotta say that evolution is the biggest load of science crap since the flat earth theory. I saw Expelled with Ben Stein when it came out and it was pretty good. Of course it's extremely biased but so is the "science" community so it's nice to see some free thinking. I used to be heavily into all that stuff since I was a kid but since there is no absolute proof either way arguments go no where and I concentrate now on more cowbell.

Listening on headphones, like the sound of the vocals....interesting lyrics, captured my intrest right away. Some tasty lead guitar, adds a nice dynamic to the song.Think maybe the bass guitar could come up a bit during the solo to add a nice counterpoint . Cool song, enjoyed it!

lilpedro: Mark Courter did an amazing job on the lead guitar didn't he? Thanks for listening and taking the time to comment. You're not the first to mention the bass part needing to come up a tad, and I appreciate the feedback. I need all the help I can get!!

I apologize for missing this thus far, unintentional.

I hear your style in this song. I’ve heard a few bayou and I see a pattern emerging :-) But that’s a good thing!

Nice recording and mix. If I could change anything? I would let the bass roam a bit more. It fits just fine, but I’d give him a few places to add some fills, etc. Good job.

Janet: Thank you very much ma'am, you are too kind!!

Robby: Thanks man. I do the bass myself and I'm extremely limited on my talent, so I'm not to the point of adding fills yet. I just follow the kick and add a slide here and there. I really need to concentrate a little more on it though I guess. I do luuuuv playing the bass, even just plucking to the kick!!

Damn those guitars are Freaking Awesome! Lyrically solid too. The "think again" concept was well played out. I like the vocal delivery. My only sugg would be to add another fill in the drum track here and there at the chorus, but that's minor.

Duane...very daring lyrics...applauds for such a huge undertaking. That acoustic guitar in the center has the sweetest fat sound to it. love it....as all the lead work is quite good. Very nice.

DP: Really appreciate the great comments. Mark Courter gets all the credit for the lead parts, and what a jam up job he did. I'm doing the plucking during the verses and teh rhythm in the chorus.

Rick: Thanks man. Yea, I do tend to step out there with my lyrics sometimes!! I've been told more than once that I'm too direct. Thanks for the great comment and again, Mark gets the credit for the excellent lead guitar.

    Duane

I'm glad this one popped up again as I kept getting close to it over the Holidays but getting dragged away again before I got to comment, still one thing I did get to listen to it a few times as a result.

I'm gonna stay well out of the theology here as my beliefs are prolly more private than anything else.

But I always love to hear your stuff from both the musical and technical aspects and this is as crystalline a production from you as I've come to expect but it's great to hear you creatively shaking it around some now. To be honest I've always managed to come away with some good ideas from hearing your mixes.

Great vocal clarity here, and Marks contrib is kinda cute, what rocks me with this one though is the fantastic transitions from verse to chorus.

Very catchy, I've caught myself humming it a few times already.

Thanks for the comments again on the guitar playing, folks. I'm just helping out a pal.

Jonbuoy: KIND OF CUTE? You're making me blush. What the heck does that mean? That's something my girlfriend might say when I play her a new tune: "That's kind of cute, honey." Musically, critically that's the kiss of death!

No sweat, pal, I'm just playing with you.

Maybe it's a translation thing but I dunno if you ever had a delightful looking lady dancing in front of you at a gig and you think to yourself that wiggly move thing she's doing there is 'kinda cute'.

That's the sort of thing the guitar is doing for me on this track if that makes sense I could have said that guitar has got an attractive wiggle goin' on but I thought (maybe wrongly) kinda cute sounded better. I did like it though and wasn't double talkin' ya. You should be grateful for that lady of yours though I don't get that was 'kinda cute' from mine....I normally just get TURN THAT ROW DOWN!!!...
