Thinking of changing my sound card, are these options any good?

ESI Wavetable 192L

MAYA 44

M-Audio Audiophile 2496

I currently own an Infrasonic Quartet, but the website drivers are simply useless with my system besides the drives which come with the card which are very old and a bit buggy

I've learn't my lesson of going out and buying a sound card without reading reviews and sifting through forums so i thought it would be best if I posted in a few places about the sound cards I am planning on purcahsing.

    I believe the M-audio is a good card/interface...

HOWEVER.... I would think TWICE about buying a PCI interface.

A PCI card is OK, but it is so much easier to move/migrate your system to a new computer if it is EXTERNAL and running on USB.  When I did my build last year, I migrated from a laptop to a desktop. My interface, which was by necessity external with the laptop, made the transition perfectly to the new desktop. Hopefully, should I get a new desktop in the future, it's just a matter of loading the drivers and I'm up and running again.  This became an issue of sorts because the MOBO didn't really have a whole lot of PCI slots available on it.

Instead of bying a PCi sound card you have to install into your PC, Why no buy a USB or Firewire Audio /IO with MIDI ports.  That way you be mobile if you have to or easy move it to another PC.

There are plenty out there and depending on the number of I/O you needs, the prices are great.

Check out the new Quad-Capture From Roland = $269.00

IF you need more I/O's Then consider the Octo-Capture
    http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/OctaCapture = $599.00

    Peace

You both have a valid point.

I have been also planning on upgrading and found a large number of the Motherboards I was looking at only had one PCI slot I could use as the video card I have installed takes up 3 PCI slots alone.

I guess I wanted to get another PCI sound card since the currant one I have just does not play right with my current setup when using the latest drivers off the Infrasonic website.

I do like the specs of the Quad Capture.
Pretty much everything I need in the way of a sound card plus it's external.
I'll have to see what the stores are offering the card for though and see if they are available.

I have seen some M-Audio and Focusrite Externals for sale.
