Thinking of getting "Sound Toys" to go with X1B, any thoughts?
I've read a couple of good reviews of the Sound Toys products, and was thinking of adding them to my collection, but I'm always interested to get to get thoughts from others. http://www.soundtoys.com/ Anyone usuing these, and if so what do you think? Thanks,

They are quite simply fabulous plugs. Unfortunately, if you are running 64bit they are a bit sketchy in Sonar. The latest update will run in X1 under bitbridge but have a few gui quirks and still the potential to crash the Teleport Server (BitBridge). If you, however, are running 32 bit you should have no trouble at all. They are supposed to release the plugs in 64bit soon. But "soon" has been a while now.

Great plugs. Lousy support. Don't hold your breath for x64

Well, I think I will talk to their sales department then, mention I am thinking about getting them, but not till they are 64 bit. It's funny how some companies care much more about future sales than keeping current customers satisfied.

Well, I got a reply in less than 1 hour We do plan to go 64bit as soon as possible, but do not yet have a release schedule. Thanks, Mitch Thomas SoundToys That's pretty good except of course we don't know when they will go 64 bit. Maybe it's not a bad idea to wait though, I've already spent more than I should have this month.

I like Mitch...he's a funny guy (just check out their how to videos). But I got the same reply from him last year about them going 64bit. Actions speak louder than words. I think it's just because they basically started as a MAC company and ported to PC. 64bit doesn't seem so urgent to them.

The problems you mentioned have they been show stoppers, or just a slight annoyance. Also, I think I will check out their videos thanks for the tip.

Well, when I first got my new 64bit machine and loaded 64bit 8.5.3 on it I discovered that my beloved SoundToys would not work at all. That was a true bummer. But just recently Mitch and the boys released an update which lets SoundToys work in 64bit Sonar...albiet shaky. I don't know what would be a show stopper as regards me and SoundToys. I like them too much. But the day I can use them glitch free like I could in 32bit XP will be a great day indeed.

I use Echoboy in 64bit Sonar (htough not in an X1 project yet) and the gui glitches are more annoyance than show-stopper. As for quality, it's the only digital effect I've yet found that comes close to the sound of the Electro-Harmonix Memory Man series. Not quite the same - but it's close (and it's in stereo). For digital stuff, SoundToys do sound remarkably analogue - far more so than anything by Line6 or NI in my opinion. What they are not is ultra-clean and hi-fi sounding - which is exactly the point, of course.

I'm curious if anyone is now able to run Soundtoys via bitbridge or jbridge in 64 mode without issues? I can use it fine in 32 bit mode, but when I use it in Sonar X1d via bitbridge, the GUIs seem a bit buggy, and it always seems to hang bitbridge. I don't have jbridge, as most of the plugs I use are either 64 bit or play fine with bitbridge. Curious as to others' experiences. I do love these plugs! Wish they'd release 64bit versions.

Nope...if you run SoundToys in 64bit Sonar bridged with either BitBridge or JBridge you are going to get GUI anomalies. These mainly consist of glitchy, hangups when trying to select presets or, occasionally, when setting new parameters using the onscreen controls. Most of the time the plug itself won't crash but it is somewhat disconcerting and makes them problematic to use. I love them but find myself NOT using them much due to these limitations. Once they finish porting them to 64bit (ha ha ha ha ha...like that's ever gonna happen) everything should be just dandy.

@yorolpal: Thanks for the response. Guess I'll have to patiently wait for 64 bit versions, and use them in 32 bit Sonar in the meantime.

I thought they sounded good, but I'm completely 64 bit at this point and wouldn't have it any other way. I was also turned off that different formats of the plug have different functions enabled. If you want a good replacement for Echoboy, then you should demo Valhalla Ubermod. It sounds excellent, and does so much more.

As long they are in x32bit format stay away, Don't support them.. There are so many other plugins that are already in x64 that sounds so much better then soundtoys! Nomad Factory...iZotope ... Waves just to name a few

I love Soundtoys and are the only 32 bit plugs I use in Sonar x64. If you decide to get them make sure to use them with jBridge. I get mostly stable performance with that. But when they choose to act up they really are determined. So I freeze the tracks with these on as soon as I can when I use them. To me it's worth it but YMMV

+1 to using jBridge. Also useful to tick the jBridge settings box which refers to opcode 19 errors. Not sure of exact wording as not at DAW. I found that this setting has fixed the tendency to hang on browsing presets - together with slightly upgrading my processor :-) These plugs are great fun but are cpu hungry, and also take a long time to load. If you have several instances in a project it seems like the project has hung when opening it up. That's my experience - anybody else concur?

Well cliffsp8, ol pal, I don't want you to take this the wrong way but I could kiss yor ol self right about now. And give ya a big ol hug too! And buy ya a damn drink!! Thank you...thank you...thank you! I've got my SoundToys back!! They're usable again. Jimeny-Christmas-On-A-Dang-Soda-Cracker!! I'd tried using JBridge over BitBridge every time there was an update to it. But it never changed a dang thing. Browsing for presets would still hang the plug and it would still hang sometimes when turning knobs and such. Screw it, I had said to myself. I just can't use my beloved SoundToys till the dimwits port up to 64 bit. I had never even looked at the settings menu or seen the "opcode error 19" instructions. It's a wonder I can tie my own shoes. And, truth be told, I sometimes don't bother. BUT IT WORKS!!! As soon as I checked that little box in the settings menu of JBridge I could browse and tweak all I wanted with nary a hang or stutter. I'm so giddy right now you might have to pour a glass a iced tea on me to get me to settle. I owe you one ol pal. Thank you SO much. Please, anyone else who's been goin crazy trying to use SoundToys in Sonar's 64bit environment...follow Cliff's advice above. You'll be glad you did!

Sure feels more stable here and I think I can rely on these plugs with a lot more confidence now Regarding the loading times. Yes, I've noticed that they do take a little longer to load but not so long that it's tedious. I have a very powerful machine now and it's not much difference than other plugs. Guitar Rig for example takes a lot longer. I don't reccall that the Soundtoys plugs took that much longer to load on my previous machine with the Q9550 processor

Wow. Thanks for the heads up, Cliff. I'll have to download jbridge and give it a try. Does using jbridge also seem to get rid of some of the gui bugs - meters not working, etc??? I do know that loading projects with multiple instances (in Sonar x86) of Soundtoys does seem to take longer for me, too.

Had them, loved the sound, got rid of them because I got tired of the crashes. Crashes departed with SoundToys. However, reading this thread and seeing the JBridge trick, I wonder if I'd want to give it a go again. I really miss EchoBoy. Jon

Yeah, same here! This seriously rocks! And I've automated the living daylight out of these things this evening and hardly any ****ing at all from the Soundtoys. I have no concerns using these after the opcode error 19 trick. It's awesome! So Jon, it's seriously worth a shot even if you haven't got jBridge already. It's only a 20 or so to get it.
