This Forum Needs to Organized by Feature

This is probably not a new idea, but since this forum for X1 is just a random collection of rants, praises, complaints, and troll accusations, I didn't see it anywhere, and I'm finding it difficult to find much useful information.

I realize that the board has its own sections, but X1 is a new animal with its own interface, its own learning curve, and its own set of frustrations.  It would be nice to know I was talking to individuals who were actually interested in the feature I'm discussing.

Try posting about a feature and see what turns up. You may be surprised.

    +1

plus the fact many people who complain about how the forum is laid out often haven't looked beyond the one they post in.

If somebody is posting praise or complaint about X1 surely this is the place to do it.

So what feature are you discussing here or is it just a rant accusing the populous of being trolls?

Hell, we can't keep on a any thread.  Posts keep wandering off topic, straying far from the OP.  What were we talking about?

Ah, yes, but like in the real world, cross pollination of threads is what keeps this place alive.

Good idea but I doubt if it would work. Even with the current structure people post all over the place.

What would be a good idea is if selected threads with solutions or work arounds were dragged out to a knowlege base so they dont get burried. Look how many times the Toontrack 64 bit issue has cropped up in the last few months. Same question, same answer over and over again.

I disagree that the forum should be organized by feature.  there are hundreds or thousands of "features" in sonar.  organizing by feature would be chaos.  people have trouble posting in the correct subforum (or even the correct upper forum) now, can you imagine the way things would get posted in a feature organization heirarchy?  it would not get used as intended and would make things worse than they are now, IMO.

Not only that, many people think many of the features are bugs so that wouldn't help at all.

Although I agree that organising by feature wouldn't make too much sense, not least because there are hundreds of features, but it might be good to have two separate sub-forums for discussing feature requests and bug reports.

The bug report forum would have to be linked to the bug-report page. Maybe the only way to start a new thread would be to report an issue. The thread would be started with the bug-report number in the topic and when the issue is fixed or closed or whatever this would also be reported in the thread.

Something similar would apply to the feature request forum. Any new thread needing a proper feature request to be started.

It would be nice to know I was talking to individuals who were actually interested in the feature I'm discussing.

My main frustration is that the snap to feature in staff view no longer works in X1 (at least not consistently).  When I reported it (CWBRN-4400) as a user truly interested in making the product work as it should, they close my report saying this is not a feature of X1, and tell me to put in a feature request.

I'm not sure which one is worse: Not knowing how your own product is supposed to work.  Or breaking it and refusing to admit it.
