This World
This is not quite finished but I thought I would share it with you. My friend Mike is singing on it. It needs the vocals re-recorded and probably the lead. It's not mastered and still a pretty rough mix. I hope you enjoy it! This World

Great start. The vocals will need retracking. Mike can sing it fine, but he is really shaky, so with practice he will breathe easier and the vocals will settle down. I can see some interesting areas to go with the mix, so it will be fun to watch what you do with it. edit -oops, I should have read your post more carefully, I see you already intended to retrack. Mea Culpa.

Oh, and get Mike to project more (you will hear the difference right away I suspect).

Thanks for the response guys. That was the first time Mike ever heard the tune. At the time I didn't know he could read music so I had him do just some scratch. We went verse by verse till it was close enough. The next time he comes, he should nail it.

Good potential here, especially once you get the vocal fixed like you were saying. I'd definitely be interested in hearing the final mix once you get it done.

your singer sounds fine on the opening section... it's only when the song gets heavy, where it sounds a bit tentative. have him track the heavy part verse by verse... then, have him do it again. then, a third time, and print that one! LOL then, have him sing it again, and mix that one real low below the main one... then, add one part harmony on top of the choruses, and double that one. mix that vox down a bit, to sit better with everything else, and bring the bass guitar up so it absolutely FILLS the low end. on the soft sections, i'd love to hear the clean arpeggiated guitar part doubled (play it twice, don't copy it!) , and panned hard left and right.... i'd also love to hear the solo played as a simpler melody, with some harmonies that come and go... maybe a long echo, think floyd and gilmore... the reason i think that, is because this fills so much more like a ballad than a rocker, and it's a bit spacy with those nice breakdown fills, the solo could be very similar. \ why does this song somehow remind me of tom petty? mike cambell does some wonderful simple solos, that are so memorable, maybe thats why i want to hear a simpler solo.....

just like mentioned before, your singer Mike is fine at the beginning, but he is not holding the level through the chorus...nevermind, I am sure he will deliver the next time! I am looking forward to the final mix!

This is well on it's way. The vocal needs a little more dynamic, but as you said it will be redone. He has a good voice and you should have no problem wrapping this up. Is this your tune? I'm not familiar with it. Daryl

Thanks for listening everyone. There is no copied tracks. One side is a 1979 Les Paul Custom and the other is an Ibanez RG something DXQM. Each side has two tracks. One is the amped sound and the other is a direct sound through an amp sim. I find that amp sims can add clarity to the parts but they don't sound right by themselves. Thanks for checking it out. I've got a some more to finish up before I get Mike to come sing for me.

Very nice number Robert. I love the guitar sound and the lyrics. As mentioned in some of the above replies, the vocals might need a re-do but it won't take much to get it to perfection.

Nice start , I have to agree the vocals need a lift after the song starts moving . I'm sure with some practice he will work it out so it sounds smooth all the way through , right now there are some rough sounding areas in his singing . Good start - James
