This board is relly slow: Always.

You would think that if Cake wanted to run with the big dogs the forum software would be better.

It used to be slow but now it's zippy (I think that's the right term)

You are absolutely right.  I think Sonar development should take a back seat to making this forum work faster.

I'm thinking it was a joke....someone as smart as bitman would know if slowness were due to the software or server it would affect everyone.

Last year this was a real annoyance for me.

This year, on some computers IE 9 is way not working for specific sites. "tis the case for my wife's computer.

    And: could be the popups.

I have IE set to block popups, and consequently get a message everytime I view a thread here.  Been blocking these popups for years. Not sure what they are for, other than the banner ads.

I have allowed them to pop but nothing is ever shown.

    ===============

The forum software configuration should be significant improved.  Support from the forum software vendor told me part of the problem, especially the abysmal search results, was due to index settings.

For 2 years, I only got results that were 3 months, and older.

Support forums are one of the most important sources of information every organization has. Poor support of the forums reflects the value placed upon the org's customers' feedback.

A good forum reduces support costs. Improves customer satisfaction AND: is a major souce of product ideas and improvements

Obviously, if the same guys at CW that code the products are also responsible for the forum then we can understand why this resource is not well cared for.

Lots of improvements and maintenance are needed. Prolly not the underlying software, but just the need for attention.

I often wait forever for the forum to load. It is the most agonizingly slow website I have seen in years. Sometimes I have to click on the forum link in my browser (FF) many times before it eventually loads.

It's not slow particularly, it's perfectly mediocre.

    http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/cakewalk.com#

IOW 50% of sites are slower.

Interestingly however important we like to think we are here the main content pages attract pretty much the same amount of traffic as we do for all our catterwaulin'.

I tried IE9 twice and went back to IE8 because, well.... IE9 just didn't work as well on this board... I also DO NOT use Windows popup blocker, it SUQ... get the free popup blocker from Panicware.com it works great without any little windows or other aggrivations and if yu need to momentarily disable it just hold the control key and any window you need will open as a popup but you wont be bothered by regular annoying popups or popup blocked bars... it is a great little program.

IE9 - hopelessly slow for this board, and one or two other places.  It's a piece of utter cr*p.
IE8 on my laptop - no problems.

    John

Edit: I just tried this per the MS site and it seems to have improved IE9's sluggishness.  I don't know if it will last or not:
    1. Start Internet Explorer 9.
    2. Click Internet Options on the Tools menu.
    3. On the Advanced tab, locate the Accelerated graphics section.
    4. Verify that the Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering check box is selected.
    (Mine wasn't ticked).

    It's a disgrace.

Having said that, and in fairness, and when it's running OK, load times are very quick (I normally use IE8 in IE7 browser mode).

But every now and then, it can take ages for a page to load and no amount of refreshing helps - sometimes reloading the page works, but I normally end up with the 'No record to display message'. When IE isn't working, I've tried trying to access the page in FireFox, Opera and Safari, and none of them works either.

Occasionally, Chrome does seem to be able to cut through, but that's intermittent.

By far the most annoying aspect of the problem is when you've just compiled a lengthy and helpful post and hit 'Post Message' and everything just hangs there From bitter experience, I now routinely copy long posts every paragraph or screenshot and paste it into Word, just in case.

So I'm still wondering whether it's a user browser problem, or a fault at Cakewalk's end (which would be a disgrace).

... someone as smart as bitman would know if slowness were due to the software or server it would affect everyone.
Yeah, he's brilliant ... "This board is relly slow:"

This forum is painfully slow. Steve is right about it locking up when sending posts. It also has a nasty habit of closing your reply box sometimes if you are in the middle of typing a response and switch to another browser tab.

To be precise: It is an UTTER disgrace.
Some nights I just give up trying to load the forum.
I am very happy for the guys who have no problems, but my deepest sympathy goes out to my fellow-sufferers who struggle to load the forum.

    Yes, it is RELLY slow.
