Yeah, but they're referring to an additional samples pack that hasn't been launched yet.

Ha!  Wasn't referring to the offer!  Was a "read between the lines" reference to Don's little inside story regarding how Gibson apparently mismanaged at least one aspect of Cakewalk development.

Doesn't look like Cake will be coming back...

Wow, just read up on that. I guess Gibson were already planning on pulling the plug months ago.

They never had a chance.  Maybe we should have seen it coming...

I can think of several other software companies that did not fare well after being acquired, and losing full control over their destiny.  But I was under the impression that Cakewalk was operating as a somewhat independent entity.

Makes me wonder now if Roland's sale of Cakewalk should have been a red flag?

That whole narrative Don lays out really bothers me. All week, I have been trying to take a "we can't really know the truth, business is tough, bad stuff happens" stance about a lot of this disaster. But when someone with a track record for making good notation software comes to your company, offers to address a long-standing sore point with the user-base by adding their notation abilities to Sonar -- a fix that, by the sound of it, would eliminate the need for a lot of in-house dev work and would be achievable without a huge investment in time -- and your parent company turns them down twice (the second time after both parties go to great lengths to meet the initial objections)...then something is up.

Well reading between the lines like I do... : )

Gibson did control operations at CW. Maybe not day to day stuff. But they certainly knew what was going on.

However, CW didn't know what they were up to and moved along like they always did.

Hmmmm  indeed!

Perhaps some bean counters determined that Cakewalk was worth more to Gibson as a tax write-off (what they had it on the books for) vs. what it would sell for on the market if they put it up for sale.
