If you can control a situation you can very much control the general mindset of a nation.

Sometimes I feel like being discriminatory in the cakewalk forums then I just use mind of matter then I feel much better.

Judging by the 'jobsworth' attitude of some of the TSA officials (like the one described as shouting "I have the power" to that one guy) it seems to me that it might be a case with a lot of them that their personality should have ruled them out of contention for doing this particular job.

Anyone who is shouting "I have the power" probably doesn't have the power.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot--hey, who the hell are you guys?

Bapu is working fine for me here. I don't know what all the complaining is about. I'm sure the previous versions had snappier interfaces, but time marches on.

If you want to build a pipeline through Islamic holy land, don't be surprised when the "terrorists" come home to roost. Traipsing round the globe raping third world countries of their natural resources for our own profit is not without consequences. Extreme religious views, however twisted, are not the root cause here. Dig a little deeper and you will find a corporate conglomerate who leveraged the power of congress and now have a whole lot of blood on their hands... and a media propaganda campaign the likes of which the world has never seen.

If anyone should be pissed at the U.S. for using their oil ... it should be Canada. We imported almost twice as much from them last year as we did the Middle East. If you take that mentality then we should be over-run by radical Canadian's within the next few weeks.

Would I get totally beat up for playing devils advocate here? First...before I say a word...I totally agree that this stuff is wrong. Those video's made me jump out of my skin!

However, though there is a great percentage of TSA agents that are completely out of line and enjoying the power they have....don't you think some of it is credible? I mean....what better way to hide something than on an elderly person or a child. How about hiding something under a prosthetic breast? I mean seriously...ok, there is definitely some evil stuff going on with how they go about these things....but these terrorists are pretty crafty these days and come in all flavors and colors.

Also, and I'm sure some of you can attest to this that are in the people business as well...but people today are real pieces of sh!t. They really are. They come off with attitudes like you are lower than they are and that the customer is always right. For example, the dude in the video that wouldn't tell where he worked or why he had the money he had on him. Granted, this is a grey area...as most travelers will probably have a few grand on them. This was definitely harrassment, but don't you think he could have just aswered the question?

I used to go away to England every few months. My record company boss would pay me in cash when I was there. I'd have anywhere from 6k to 10k in my suitecase from him on any given time....I swear. I was inconvenienced just about every time I went on tour because I used to bring my guitar pre-amp with me in my bag. It looks like a bomb and I knew I'd get stuff for it. Why they never checked my suitecases....I have no idea...but if they would have, all that cash would have been a definite nightmare to explain. But, I would have explained it and told the dudes what I did for a living and why I had the money. What is so hard about that unless you are hiding something? I just felt he made it harder on himself. You're trying to board an airplane...something seemed funny to them to where you were pulled aside. What is so wrong about telling them what you do for a living...and why couldn't he just say..."I work at so and so...and like every other traveler, I brought some cash with me". That's all that needs to be said really. These people make problems for themselves many times with a "holier than thou" attitude.

Granted, TSA agents doing wrong or harrassing people is not cool...and we know this exists. But how many of these people earned the right to be repremanded? We don't know the full story as officer Mike has explained. Without all the facts, it's probably less than half a story most times. As a traveler that has been all over the world, even when they thought I was carrying a bomb....I was treated with respect, answered all questions with a smile on my face and even said "if you go get my guitar and a set of headphones, I'll jam through that bomb for you". LOL! A lot of it has to do with the attitude of people...trust me. If I didn't know this first hand from flying all over God's creation, I'd not even comment about it. If you do what you're told (within reason) and don't make waves, you blow right through these places...even today. When you show up with an attitude or think you are going to strong arm TSA, they can make your life miserable. Again, I know there are several that are on a power trip abusing that power....but people today are so rude and full of attitude, some of them deserve the treatment they receive.

You tell 'em Zuma; These 'excersions' into Iraq and Afghanistan are wrapped in flags, nationalism, lies, half-truths, but in essense we are fighting for the corporate profit of multi-national corporations.

There's nothing new to learn. A conglomerate of domestic and foreign Oil/Gas companies went before the US congress in the early 90's asking for influence and military intervention if need be, to pave the way for the TransAfghanistan pipeline which snakes right through Taliban holy land. They tried negotiating through the UN first but Bin Laden didn't want gold. The ultimatum was "we'll bomb you into the stone age".  It's a fact, Bub. It's all lies and false flags. You forget we armed Bin Laden's boys in the 80's when Russia was doing the same thing. The oil is running dry and the middle east is the strategic battle ground for "he who controls the last drop". You've been lied to and mislead. All the chest thumping and flag waving is just a smokescreen.

Many years ago, you hardly ever saw anyone traveling with a laptop. I remember drawing stares at airports when I'd sit there working on my 286 with its orange plasma display.

Back then, it was routine for airport security to make you turn a laptop on for them, I guess on the theory that if it was a bomb it wouldn't boot up or something.

So I put the following into my autoexec.bat file (we were booting into DOS in those days):

@echo off
echo ARMING...
wait 1
echo 10...
wait 1
echo 9...
wait 1
echo 8...
wait 1
echo 7...
pause Press any key to continue

Unfortunately, about that time they stopped the practice of making you boot up your laptop for them, so I never got to see if my attempt at humor would actually lighten the mood at security checkpoints.

They might not have found it humorous, A friend tells the story of how just jokingly as she handed over her purse for inspection saying " Oh I took all my bombs out  already"
They looked at her with jaw's dropped and pulled her out of the line and held her up for 15 min and a supervisor had to come and interview her.
He said we didn't find your comments humorous at all. The word Bomb is not to be spoken in the checkpoints.

I'm glad that some of the Americans are on board with what the rest of the world already see's in all this terrorism paranoia. The thing is that some of these corporations that manipulate you so easily are not even American owned. And what's with the redneck gun thing!  Who in their right mind would consider shooting at a fellow human being?
We need to be careful about what we say the whole world is listening here.

Zuma and tom1 ...

If you hate America so much ... get out. That's all I can say. Get out and never come back if it's such a horrible place run by murderer's. There's too many people here anyway to be honest and we don't need self haters dragging us down even more. Go to the middle east, Europe, Canada, Mexico, or anywhere else that will take you ... just don't sit here and try to accuse this country of having blood on it's hands when these people are going around setting off bombs, flying planes in to buildings, beheading people, raping and mutilating women and children, killing homosexuals, and threatening to exterminate entire races of people all in the name of 'God'. What on Earth is wrong with the two of you?

We're not in the middle east for oil, the oil is almost gone and there is more oil in Colorado than there is in the entire middle east ... there's more oil in Texas than there is in the entire middle east ... Canada has more oil than Colorado and Texas combined, we're there to prevent the spread of a murderous cult from reaching our shores and taking over like they are doing in other places. Been to Detroit lately? You think there's trouble now, wait until they get seeded in Mexico. The world has seen nothing yet compared to what will come out of there. That's not a slam on Mexicans, but it is a slam on the corruption there. It's a political ideology hidden in a religion that creates laws under the guise of 'God' which is what many people died for to get away from when this country was started.

Anyway ... this is a far cry from the TSA topic (sort of) so let's just move along please. Thank God we live in a country where we can express ourselves freely without being jailed or killed for it.

I'm LMAO (and thinking about a modern version of this that does the count-down in Arabic), but you probably would have been arrested.  I used to tour playing darts back in the 80's and darts are one of those items that are not allowed in carry-on luggage even back then.  One of the other players heading to a tournament about 1985 complained when they made him remove his darts that "...it's not like they're a bomb!"  Just saying the "B" word got him arrested.

Well, I have observed that darts can indeed be quite dangerous, especially in combination with alcohol, as is the tradition around the world.

And what were they thinking when they invented lawn darts?

Darts does seem to get a bad rap (the new Zoosk commercial comes to mind).  Actually, unlike lawn darts which has had child fatalities, in over 30 years of playing pub darts (including touring, being a league director and running tournaments), I've never heard of even ONE serious injury.  Just ask anyone, if things start to get rough in a bar, would they rather have a set of darts or a pool cue and you'll get the same answer every time.
