This is not good

I have managed to get a corrupted project somehow, and even when opening is safe mode, if I say "no to all plugs", it still crashes and won't boot the project.

Besides opening an older version of the song and working from there, do I have options to somehow open the current one?  I have several takes/tracks in there I would rather not lose by going to an earlier version.

Thanks.

Probably not much hope for the original project. If the tracks/takes are audio, they still exist in the audio folder. If they are MIDI tracks, they may be lost. I would make a copy of the project directory for safe keeping. Then open an older cwp and import the tracks from the audio folder that are missing from the older cwp.

How does a project get "corrupted" anyhow? It's never happened to me in Sonar, although I've had projects that have built up weirdness over time to the point where I've abandoned them and started afresh by salvaging as much as I could. However on a few occasions I had project files get "corrupted" with Pro Tools and there was nothing I could do to get into them.

You'd think DAW manufacturers would address this problem by offering some way to salvage corrupted project files. After all, when you're just working on a project and saving it as you normally would, and it somehow gets "corrupted," it's nothing that you did wrong, it just "happened." And losing important work is inexcusable.

Program, OS or disk failure. If you ask support, they have been known to attempt to recover projects or at least study the project in an effort to correct the failure that corrupted the project in the first place.

I managed to find the takes I wanted and import them into an older version, but as I have no idea why it was ruined in the first place, I'm afraid it will just happen again....

I've never seen this before, and let me tell ya, I don't like it one bit.

I doubt this happened simply because of the audio tracks being used... More likely a renegade/unruly plugin or Sonar simply having a bad-hair-day and crashing...

I've had a number of crashes that seem simply due to opening or closing a song... and then not happen again.... Sometimes I think maybe I performed my clicks "too fast"?

How many hard drives in your computer? If you have too many hard drives for the power supply, it can cause you to get corrupt files.

Have you run a scandisk on your drives? You should do that periodically or after a system crash.
