I've watched that one more times than "The Wizard of Oz".

Eventually, it will make perfect sense. Although I'm still not sure about how the tin man had any motor control with no medulla oblongata.

Oh no. It scared the livin' sh*t outa me when I was 4 years old and it's been a recurring part of my ongoing therapy ever since.

Dan W's Timeless videos, by comparison, aren't quite the entrenched rituals. But then, they don't have flying monkeys.

I'm pretty sure you're thinking of "The Wiz" there bit. Fun...sure. Great music...you bet! Horrifying? Nightmare inducing? Oh yes.

    Bit,

Glad but unglad to see someone who understands the terror of the original "Wizard of Oz" even if you're probably half my age.

Terror for me was when Dorithy was being sucked up with the tornado. There were cows and debris visible through the window, Auntie M,... Then...

Wicked witch on her broomstick howling with laughter.

Traumatic experience. Scared the crap out of me. Can't even now watch the original without a primordial adrenaline rush before the witch appears.

bitflipper - I couldn't have said that better myself.  Totally traumatized me.

Don't be afraid of the Dark (1973) was not good for me. Mind you, those creatures really do exist and live under your stairs.

Speaking of Dan. He ignored me once.

John, for me to be half your age you'd have been taking your grandkids to see the Wizard of Oz during its initial theatrical run.

Yeh, it was the witch's evil laugh that got me, too. And the flying monkeys.

Even after that traumatic initiation, I was still emotionally unprepared for Bambi. That's been called a horror film for toddlers. I couldn't believe it was my own mother who subjected me to that one.

Yeah, I might have slipped a decimal point or two on the age calculation.

Have heard that Bambi was terrifying to young kids as well. I saw it as a kid but don't remember anything about it. Probably blotted the trauma into my subconscious. Suspect that's where the occasional migraine comes from.

It's funny what scares you when you're a kid. Around about the age of 4 I was petrified to the point of hysteria by an old BBC cartoon called Mary, Mungo and Midge. This is what I'm talking about:

I can't even watch it today without being slightly creeped out. There was something about the style of animation and the drawings which terrified the living daylights out of me. Having said that, I was also extremely creeped out by Jimmy Savile, and was of course proven 100% right over the last couple of years.

You're never too old to get creeped out over little things. yorolpal's avatar, for example.

The ONLY movie that ever creeped me out (and this was as an adult) was The Shinning.

W of O, Bambi et. al. were childs play to me.
