This video is a work of art

I love this. I have absolutely no video skills at all but I wish I did, because making something like this seems like it would be so much fun. Kind of reminds me of the early days of music video when directors had a "what the hell, cram it in" attitude and nothing had to have any meaning.

The electronic music scene has been at the forefront of trippy visual production since the early 90's. I remember some of the acid trance videos back then, endless fractals and the kind of impossible geometric animations that underground hackers were churning out on the demo scene. Great stuff if you were into acid, and definitely the evolution of the oil slide projections of the 60's.

I just love that some of the most wonderfully creative stuff is being produced by people who aren't looking for any kind of huge commercial success. This kind of music doesn't exactly rake in the cash. Here's another splendidly quirky video that'll make you smile...the music is pretty out there too...

For a short time I was President of a company called the Liquid Sky Group (yes, LSG  ) and we would make some of the fractal videos that were played in nightclubs and such.  It often took up to two weeks(!) to create a single fractal that we would then color cycle and record to VHS (this was the late 80's).  I still have one 35mm proof saved that I will someday need to have made into a poster!

I can well believe it took that long! I remember dabbling with a fractal program on my Amiga. Oh boy....you could get through a cup of coffee per frame...

I'm guessing that's one of Cyriak's, without even pressing the play button :-D

    Hi,

On one of the films that I made, I ended up adding a sequence that I just took while driving. The Super 8 camera on my right hand, swinging and moving around, and the car went over a bump, which was perfectly added to the film, and ended up having the professor state that the conceptual design of the film was excellent ... everyone in the class only did moronic living room scenes or dumb Hitchcock like scenes. I was the only one to show something completely different.

Mine was actually easy, since I used music by Kevin Ayers, and the closing moments (titles) with The Doors ... and when Ray Manzarek would not allow me to use that piece (the one about "has this dream stopped") ... I put the movie aside.

I have wanted to find a band to create that piece of music for me, but the only response I ever got was one band in Santa Barbara that said noone would play Doors stuff, because their management, were nasty!

I have not shown it or done anything with it, although I would like to have it transferred to video, and hopefully the NWFilm Center can do this for me one of these days, so I might get something done.

I got Kevin's permission without any issues ... but the ending was important for me ... becausse it clarified what the film was really about. Kevin's song used was "Once I awakened" and the poem ran to the end, with visuals that aided Mike Oldfield's solo all the way to the end.

I would love to work that piece again ... but I need to find a band that can do what Jim Morrison did on that little piece in "American Prayer".

Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!

As it happens both are Cyriak's. He has a constant theme running through all his videos which is instantly recognizable. My personal favorites are the one with the lambs, and another one with kittens which I think is called "Kitty Town" or something like that.
