This weekend's wood work progress.
Team McQ is getting faster with the biscuit joiner. The face frame on the second cabinet went together much much faster. As I pulled the clamps off the face this morning I realized that the hard work is done. The doors almost seem like the easy part. We are going to do a wood frame and some sort of stain glass for the top doors... I think a very simplistic two tone nature motif in various styles of frosted or semi trans white glass. Haven't decided what to do with the bottom doors. If you view image at full size you can sort of see the quartersawn grain patterns. Anyways, moving forward. :-) best, mike

Is this where we'll keep the good mics? I forget why we're building this.

The bottom shelves are going to be devoted to popcorn supplies. I was thinking maybe a bust of Beethoven up on the top shelf.

I'll wait and we can make it together... maybe we'll video tape it for YouTube. Sorta like a Martha Stewart crafty project. I'll get some florist foam and some stick pins and wait to make the popcorn fresh.

Good thinking Mic. What's a bust of Beethoven if not with fresh popcorn? After the bust is built can we roll it in Kettle Corn Salt while playing C.B.'s "Roll Over Beethoven"?

Lookin' good, Mike. Not so much a suggestion, but an idea to kick around. I really like punched tin door panels, and might be something to consider for the lower doors. This would fit the vintage of the house, but might be a little busy with stained glass up top. Is it just me, or can you also envision a low bench/ cabinet below the window? Love that view out the window!

Yes Robert, I also like the tin doors and have casually looked around on the internet with the idea of commissioning some from a workshop in Mexico where, I imagine you know, the art form is alive and thriving. A few weeks ago I made an attempt at a floral pattern in some roofing tin. It came out ok. I actually studied the repose' technique at university so I had some head start. I ended up with a mess of bloody finger tips and had to wash all the stains off the tin. :-) The idea of using tin remains a possibility. Thanks for the suggestion. Maybe I could use on of the speed limit signs out on the high way... they already have some nifty "hole patterns" in them. :-)
