Thread Praising Sonar
This one's for Craig. :-) Here's to Sonar!!
StudioCat > I use Windows 10 and Sonar Platinum. I have a touch screen. I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

+1 and more. Many thanks to the Bakers.
Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

I think one thing that gets lost in all the noise is that anything has potential for improvement...including people. Software is no different. Cars are no different. Relationships are no different. What separates the wheat from the chaff is whether there is a commitment to improvement or not, and a follow-through on that commitment. I do not believe SONAR is at all unique in that respect. I do not know one software company that is unaware of the shortcomings in their products, and does not have a desire to overcome those shortcomings. So we're back to the glass half-full/glass half-empty. You can say something sucks because it needs improvement, or you can say something's great because it's being improved. As George Carlin said, "Some people see the glass half full. Others see it half empty. I see a glass that's twice as big as it needs to be."

No matter how much I complain, I have tried many Daws and by far Sonar is the most comprehensive and easy to use. It works well most of the time but what MS software has ever worked perfectly? (Rhetorically speaking) It gets the job done for me!

Would it be easier than porting to a Mac? But then again...what happens to your plug-ins and such? Would they all have to be re-worked as well?

I personally feel that until Linux gets dedicated (closed) sound drivers your results will be hit and miss with ALSA drivers. I think we needed dedicated low latency drivers like RME have made for Linux platforms; again you are still developing for two different style of distributions ... Redhat and Debian variants. Creative did have some Linux beta drivers for the E-MU range although nothing ever came to fruition really AFAIK. Another problem I would have is, direct hardware support for DSP, Dongle-based licenses and as Anderton mentioned cross-platform coding issues. Perhaps this could be resolved by using a wrapper to convert from Mac or Windows native code. Then again, what did I knew?

Wouldn't Class Compliant interfaces do the trick? My RME works great in CC mode.

I imagine if they ever develop a fully fledged USB 3.1 (C) sound interface they will be much reduced limits and use extra bandwidth to fully process the low latency data in DSP, it should "relatively" to create a driver that can be coded for all platforms. A bit like the AMD thing where you can program the interface directly, so it behaves the same on all platforms.
