norah jones - humble me (not sure if she wrote it herself)

ryan adams - to be the one (slightly edging out like 10 of his other songs)

caedmon's call - home (sorry, no link)

of course there are dozens, probably at least a hundred others. but if i would have written these i could live the rest of my life fulfilled.

Hi Foggy, Yes I understand Noddy Holder and Jim Lea wrote and recorded Merry Xmas Everybody in New York in August !!!

Perhaps we should think about penning some Californian surf songs right now.............

1. One that my wife liked.
2. One that would impress David Crosby.
3. One that others would think is so good they'd want to record it.

Alone Again (Naturally)

Funny I was only discussing this one with someone the other day, it definitely has all the elements that as much as I'd like to I can never seem to get to turn up together in the same song.

Good writer, he must still be writing surely.

Another one;

Girl Don't Come - Chris Andrews, another forgotten Brit writer who wrote most of the Sandie Shaw (the prototype Chrissie Hynde) hits and some Adam Faith ones some classic tunes of the 60's.

Wow thank you for linking that! I've only heard that a few times before... and not at all recently... but yeah what a good record.

It's in the same mold as the Bachrach/David/Dionne Warwick songs and records, but something distinctly British. Sort of a little like Lulu's hits.

And yeah, that influence is easily heard in Ms Hyndes's poppier songs (including BOTCG, which I linked to upthread as one I wished I'd written.)

Bonniy rait I cant make you love me

Jimmy - although your spelling leaves much to be desired you have good taste! Have you heard Prince's version? (on the Emancipation CD)

Oh and Ron - nice call on "Lighting Crashes" - beauty in simplicity... very powerful song.

My 3 off the top of my head would be (because they seem to be speaking things I want to say)...

1) Someone Else? (Queensryche)
2) Country Feedback (REM)
3) Acrobat (U2)
