Thy Majestie's new song - listen to it!

Hi there

this is a mp3 from (my band) Thy Majestie's forthcoming album "Jeanne d'Arc" : Maiden of Steel

recorded and mixed by me with Sonar 4.01 and Creamware Pulsar plug-ins (me also on drums ) mastered by Goran Finnberg at Mastering Room (Sweden).

any opinion will be appreciated except comments on the strong italian accent

Cool riffs. You getting your money's worth out of the DFHS kick.

Nice harmonies. Great tune for this heavy genre (not known for tunes). The accent doesn't phase me at all. If you hadn't mentioned it, I wouldn't have even noticed. The lead sounds very standard 80s hair, which doesn't bother me except that it seems in contrast with the more modern prog feel of the song... not a big deal though.

Strong production... What can I say about the performance? ... Spectacular! Great stuff.

I understand what you want to say . Well, we love '80s heavy metal style. That's why we want to keep something of that sound in our music.

Wow...Jeeze...Don't know what quite to say here. Awesome, I guess. It's just that I have not heard music like that in a really long time. It is really well executed and it reminds me of bands I listened to when I was 15-18 years old, like TNT and stuff like that.

The drummer must have very tired legs after playing that song...

Mix seems kinda pushed in the high end..kinda trebly.Great playing/vocals...drums are very powerfil and tight, having just seen ozzfest a couple of days ago, been hearing alot of drummers play with this style!Love the guitar!!!!Its cool to hear shredding metal guitar leads again!(Thats the other thing about ozzfest, very little guitar soloing, xcept MAiden, Sabbath,Zak Wylde!).
Totally dig this gonna check your website out for more info on you guys...you rock!!!

You guys are awesome. I really want to pick up the earlier album (1066??). I listen to stuff like Kamelot, Rhapsody, Sonata Arctica. Prog metal is a lot of fun.

    Hastings 1066, I meant.

This is an odd forum. You can't delete your own posts, as far I can tell. (I accidentally hit quote instead of edit, didn't notice, and ended up with two posts instead of one. Sorry.)

Wow! This is one of the best (or maybe the best) production I listened to from this forum.
Excellent song and sound. Not exactly my style, but who cares. Hey, do you play that kind of music at that speed live? You must be well trained!

Can you tell us something about the production?
How did you get the choir at the beginning?

The only thing I noticed is, that the cymbals are a bit high and thin, and a bit hmm.. "alone" in its frequency range. But this is really nitpicking.

    Keep up the great work!

    thank you for your replies!

m11, yes we play that song at that speed . Perhaps it could seem a bit fast for whom is not used to listen to this kind of music : but it's a quite "normal" speed

training it's important to play at those speeds.

about choirs : we used Voice of Apocalypse samples and Gigastudio . Gigastudio has been used for every orchestrations.
Cymbals have been "ruined" by mastering . They were good when I did the mix. Anyway they don't sound too bad

Wow, incredibly energetic tune, oengus! The production seems very well done. Very polished. I dug the photos of your drum kit, too (I followed your signature link)!

Man, you had me fooled though. I didn't think those were real drums because of the machine-gun kick drum sound. When you said "me also on drums," I thought you meant drum programming, wink, wink. That's kind of odd that you got real drums to sound like that.

But that's my only negative criticism. And it's awesome that you can play like that, obviously. I don't think I would have noticed the cymbals if Melf hadn't mentioned it. (Melf's pretty good at picking out those subtleties in a mix, too.) And I definitely wouldn't have noticed any accent!

    Nice job.

    Claudio,
That was awesome! Very intense. I really liked the use of the VotA, nice accent. Vocals where great too; I didn't notice any accent, but I just spent the day working with someone from Florence, so I may just be acclimated. I wonder if the issue with the cymbals is that have have to much low end rolled off.

    I really enjoyed this.

    Hi M ,

yes these are real played drums. I recorded them acoustic then I triggered the acoustic bass drums signal and I obtained a midi track . Then I mixed the acoustic track with the midi . I used the acoustic to have the "human" touch , the midi one for the punch.
Anyway, I'm not so fast with the double bass drums : check this video http://www.georgekollias.com/video/studio_4.avi

    I love it.

I like how the orchestral sounds are pristine, unlike some of your previous (but still good) work.

I don't mind the accent. It just sounds distinct to me, not bad.
