    I completely uninstalled Java, a couple of months ago when the first warning came out.  I don't miss it.  I haven't run across any site, yet, that I needed Java.

    they released an update to address the issue yesterday



    Only partly fixed the problem.  Homeland security still recommending disabling browser plugins.

    The java runtime used to run applications on the computer (such as openoffice.org) is apparently not affected, and does not need to be uninstalled.

    This is weird as Google Chrome ( only use it to post here) keeps nagging me to install Java. Firefox seems fine without it. 

    The other day I was shopping for something and Chrome kept opening completely different websites that had the same product??? Like  pop ups but with a full tab?? scary. 

    I wished this site would upgrade it's friggin software...geeze.

    When I disable it in chrome pretty much nothing runs anymore. Must be a lot of web pages including my home page that use it.

    It's seems kind buggy to me. Chrome is always flashing this yellow banner telling me to download and install Java. 
    I checked my Java control panel and it shows the latest version is on my computer. It shows it active in both Chrome and FF.  I didn't even know the control panel existed until I read the "having trouble? " link on the java download site. The things your computer does behind your back my my..

    There was a new Java update yesterday. Maybe it fixed everything... I didn't know there was a problem. I always wonder how many people end up with ASK.com as their new default search engine or Google or Yahoo Toolbar when they update Java. Every Java update I have ever seen has a box that has to be unchecked if you don't want some aggrivation. I overlooked it once... I had no problem getting it off but I bet grandma who just emails and used Facebook really gets frustrated.

    I still do not have Java installed on any of my PC's.  I don't use Chrome, just I.E. and Firefox.  As I earlier noted I haven't run across anything, either a program or internet that required Java.

    i don't have java on my desktop, and i use firefox, chrome and IE. no issues, other than this forum hates firefox for some reason and won't let me preview posts.

    also, java is not the same as javaSCRIPT. the only relation between the two is the word "java". if you turn off javaSCRIPT, expect sites to stop working.

    In Chrome you disable JavaScript in settings > show advance > Pravacy [Content Settings] 

    When you visit sites you trust right click an empty region on the page > View Page Info > Permission > Always Allow, for that site. 

    You can also go to [Content Settings] and manage sites; insert url (links) to the sites you trust (often visit.)  

    The concern about JavaScript is probably due to the development of easy to use software 'hack program/tools' that are becoming much more clever (very high threat to privacy, security), and my guess is that this ilegal program relies heavily on Javascript.  

    IIRC reading an article by HLSecurity agent is that this threat (powerful hack tools/software) is a major concern. The developers regularly update the software (hack program tools) + adding new features. It can do a whole lot of very nasty things such as; lockdown your computer, hijacking, steal passwords, websites dns information and more. DNS hijacking is very serious especially if that site has retail along with customer information.

    I was having probs on my laptop on allot of sites especially with Chrome

    I uninstalled all instances of JAVA and everything is running great so far.
