First thing you might to check before swapping out motherboards, is that the SATA port you are using is still set to the hot-swap mode. It sounds like you could be getting write errors, due to the drives not being properly ejected. I had a power spike reset my BIOS once. It reset all my SATA ports to default settings.
Seasonic make great power supplies. I also like EVGA power supplies. Both brands have been reliable for me. Gigabyte motherboards have been good to me. A lot of people swear by Asus motherboards as well, but I had problems with several of their budget boards.
