Time-stretching audio files and loops

Hey!

So I'm wondering why when I preview a loop in Sonar X2 at  host tempo, it sounds properly stretched/shrunk without lots of nasty delay or ugly-stretched sound, yet when I add the file into the project and set the clip to looping, it suddenly sounds awful and really poorly stretched? I've tried audio-snap stretching instead, but it still sounds terrible and doesn't sync to the project tempo that way because it's based on percentages of stretch.

Any help or advice here?

right click the clip and select "groove clip looping" from the menu.
