Titration...
Doctor put me on clonazepam two or three years ago, maybe 4 IDK. I noticed right away that it screwed up my short term memory. I'd start to say something about yesterday and then forget what the details were BUT... the daily headaches were gone. I am tired of not remembering anything so I decided to titrate off, they say to go really slow. So I am dropping 12.5% every 14 days. It wouldn't be so hard if I could remember why it is I am trying to get off this med... Oh well, there must be a good reason. I'll stick with it unless the headaches return, then I'll... well, I don't know what I'll do. I'd stay away from this stuff if I were me. Sometimes I get tired of everything... mostly I get tired of being tired. I'm working on it though... I think. YMMV... I hope you're well. J

Funny how doctors are quick to prescribe a medication, but not once in my life has any doctor ever suggested stopping a medication. I'd still be injecting insulin after 5 years if I'd waited for my MD to tell me I didn't need it anymore. I took myself off it after 4 months, half expecting to keel over from diabetic shock, but that obviously didn't happen. I'm not even diabetic anymore.

Jbow, sometimes the forgetfulness can be therapeutic, especially if you're a worrier like I am. Marijuana has a similar effect on STM. Eventually the STM rebuilds, but not in the neurotic way it was before the medication. Just my 2 cents, a lot of those drugs you have to give like 6 months to work. Of course it all depends upon your diagnosis.

I only commit titration during different stages of winemaking.

That works! I made some wine once, when I was about 16yo. I picked some berries out in the woods/field/old farm behind our home. I think they were gooseberries. I don't remember the process but I ended up with a bottle of white wine, pinkish white wine and it was a SPARKLING wine! I wasn't going to drink it but my brother-in-law said something to my dad and he poured it out... I had a taste and it wasn't bad. I couldn't do it again if I wanted to. I'd REALLY like to have a small still. The last time I looked you could order small stills online. I'd like one with a 3-5 gallon capacity. I think that would be rewarding. I guess if I'm going to do it, I need to go ahead and do it. So far so good with the Klonopin. Tomorrow I'm dropping another 1.25%.

I am worried that my doctor is going to try to put me on some sort of diabetes med. It runs strong on my maternal side. My A1C has been up in the last couple of years, near 6, over 6 then last time back down to 6. I stopped drinking Cokes, I now use a mix of a little suger, some Splenda, and some Sweet Leaf stevia for my coffee, cut back on potatoes, rice, and bread. My only worry is in the afternoon if I eat a meal (certain foods) like Chinese, or the other day I had a Baconator and about 1/2 a small order of fries, Diet Coke... about an hour or two later I literally crash. I can barely stay awake unless I eat a little sugar. I keep a tin of Atomic Fireballs by my chair, about three of them and I feel OK again. I think it is low blood sugar or something to do with insulin production or something. I've read some but I don't quite understand it. However, I know an A1C of 6.1 or 6.2 isn't that bad. Since you've had some experience with diabetes, do you have any thoughts about this? My circulation does not seem to be as good as it used to be either. Almost every night I wake up with one or both of my hands "asleep". Especially if I awake on my back with my elbows and wrists bent. I guess it's just part of getting older. I really don't like the crashing after the afternoon meal... and a little sugar bringing me back surely means something. So many different things to think about, different ideas of what to do or not do. Doctors and meds... yikes. A couple of years ago I was on three BP meds and my BP was still too high. They wanted to add another but the atenolol had my heartrate dropping under 50BPM. When I was younger my heart rate was always high, moderate activity would take it to 150 easily. I got them to change the atenolol to something else, Bystolic. I cut the pills and take 2.5mg a day, dropped one BP med and am now on the Bystolic and Lisinopril twice a day. My BP came down, my heart rate stays around 75BPM. I stopped the statins and my cholesterol went up a little then stabilized, sort of borderline but not "high"... then again I am not convinced that high cholesterol is bad. Doctors and pharma have been pushing a low fat diet, statins, etc for decades and heart disease is worse than ever. It isn't working. I try to make my own medical decisions, within reason, because one size does not fit all and frankly, I don't trust them. Anyway... what do you think about the crashes and the sugar bump? What could be going on? Thanks! Julien

I monitor my A1C, which has hovered around 6 most of my life. The first time I saw that number I was 19 years old, and the doctor told me then that I was prone to diabetes. Of course, I didn't listen. I was 19 and felt fine. A few weeks ago I had a blood test that told me my A1C was 6.7 (three consecutive tests at 6.5 or higher is a diabetes diagnosis). That was a wakeup, a reminder that I'd been slacking off. Daily vigilance is the only thing that keeps me from becoming diabetic. So I'm back in diligent mode again, which simply means paying attention to what I eat. The hardest thing for me to avoid, and the one thing that has the greatest benefit if I do, is bread. I grew up eating home-made bread. Bread is to me what rice is to most Asians - an integral part of food. Something I crave if I don't have any. But the quickest way to get my A1C back down is to swear off bread for a few weeks. No toast with breakfast, no tortillas, no Cheerios. Burgers without buns, breadless sandwiches (wrap lunchmeat and cheese in a Romaine lettuce leaf). After a few days of that I literally start to dream about a thick slice of warm bread, dripping with butter and apricot preserves. It takes about a week to shake the carb addiction, and then I'm OK until I eventually fall off the wagon and indulge in a burger 'n fries.

I'm in the same boat. I got an A1C reading of around 6 about 2 months ago. Doc said to cut carbs, sugars, alcohol and lose 10lbs. I love bread. I have had almost no bread for 8 weeks now. I had a piece of bread on Saturday and was in pure heaven. I can't wait to get tested again in a couple of months to see what it has done to my A1C. Hopefully this has made a difference and I can add a few carbs and occasional sugars back into my diet.
The good thing to come out of this, I am down 8 pounds and counting.
