To delete X1 Essential, or not to delete..

I have had the full X1d Producer Expanded installed and running for some time now, and have been staring at my old X1 Essential icon and wondering... should I uninstall X1 Essential?

I have this nasty feeling that uninstalling Essential might delete some essential (!) file that Producer needs, and my whole DAW will come crashing down around my ears.

Does anyone have any experience doing this?  Should I just let sleeping DAWs lie..?

The programs themselves aren't big files so there is no reason to delete them.  Any samples/clips etc. specific to Essential will be lost.  Along w/ any effects, synths etc.  Producer probably has them all, but unless you have time to check and possibly reinstall those parts of Essential simply remove the icon from your screen.  It won't touch the program only the shortcut and yes, Cake programs "see" one another and compile the usable bits.  I've got SONAR 7 to X1 on my computer plus some older effects that were dropped in -7 versions.  No problem with leaving the earlier ones on the hard drive.

    I would let it lie.

After I went full 64 bit I decided (stoooopidly) to delete 32bit SONAR on my main DAW. Although not a disaster it took some doing to get it striaght.

I then decided to leave 32bit on my laptop (which is also 64bit).

This was all Producer/Expanded but you get my drift.

Thanks AT.  You're right.. the program doesn't take up much hard drive real estate, and I realize I have used some of the older plugins in important mixes, so I don't want Sonar to not be able to find them.. I was just responding to a sudden urge to clean up my computer landscape.

I suspect that any samples and synths that is in essential are in the bigger  X1dPE as well.

I would not delete it. Just leave it there. It's not taking up much real estate on the hard drive....

If you need or want  the ICON gone, just delete the ICON. the program is still on the computer and can be accessed at will from the ALL PROGRAMS menu.

Thanks for the advice guys - I'm keeping it.  Except I have to reinstall it to get it to work.  The deep registry cleaner in Advanced System Tools did something that keeps it from opening - Which is what it does to ALL Cakewalk products.  Don't run it if you use Cakewalk Anything!

Me personally, I'd remove it via Add/Remove programs I don't like to keep stuff around that I'm not using, I like clean, lean and simple.  And I like the idea that I'm eliminating any chance of an outdated library causing a conflict or issue further down the line.

Afterward re-run the X1 installer then update to the latest patches.

It's not a case of whether it takes up real estate it's the fact that all versions of Sonar use shared files folders the re-install will make sure you're up to date with those and alll your registry references to .dlls are correct.

As far as registry cleaners go.  Avoid, although I've run Ccleaner without issue for a few years now.  Anything more aggresive than that and you are asking for trouble.

i kept both on,it proves worthy as a foundation to trouble shoot somethings as well.like why is this NOT working in producer and is in essentials?

there in two seperate folders, but there always seems to be something that gets removed when uninstalling it.(a shared preset, something)
i left it in my case.
