To the Tune of 'Someday My Prince Will Come':
Someday... my fix will come. Just once, I'd like to click a download link on the Cakewalk site, and have a download start without issues.

Wow, you can't even download the QuickFix?!! That's a bummer. Try IE and Firefox. I'd like to know if this Quickfix solves issues for you, man. :) Keep trying to get it.

Tried four different times today. The first time, I walked away and came back to a failure message after getting about 350kb. Since then nada - never even starts. I just downloaded a 7MB file from another site to make sure I'm not having network issues... 13 seconds flat. Dunno what the deal is between me and Cakewalk.

I think my desktop must be latched on to a bad server. Just got the file with my company laptop in like 19 seconds.

Just tried again and got it. One thing getting it again made me remember is the first time I try to get it, I have to browse to where I want to download it to, and it just hangs when I finally choose the download location, but since I have the download location selected, it starts downloading fast when I click on the download link again to download it. Maybe that's what you're experiecing? So, when you try to download it, and it just hangs, stop the download and immediately click on the download link again to see if that will work?

Touche, Chuck! People are starting to get wound-up a bit too tight, and maybe need to step away from their DAWs - or these forums - for awhile if a little download issue causes them to jump on the forum just to let others know how displeased they are... I didn't have any problems dl'ing the 10MB patch, but even if I did, I would chalk it up to the predictably-heavy server traffic once could expect with such an announcement -- and I would simply try again later. We just got some good news today, folks (of course, I'm talking about the Quickfix). A lot of posts afterwards have expressed being happy or grateful. If you're one of the others who can't manage being positive for more than five minutes, then wait until one of these quickfixes breaks something on your system -- then at least you'll have something real to complain about!

People: brundlefly is not complaining. He does as many of us do here, if we're having trouble downloading such an important release. He came and posted he felt kinda like it's a bummer that he was having trouble downloading the quick fix. That's all. He wasn't ptiching a B about it. brundlefly has helped many a user here for a long time, he's a SONAR POWER USER, and he's very knowledgeable about music production matters. Please don't try to tag him as a villian around here? He is not. He's one of the great SONAR users around here. And I for one don't want to lose his contributions to this forum. Power users are leaving one by one. Let's not contribute to causing any more to leave? I really appreciate you being here, brundlefy! I hope you don't take some of these posts too hard.

I think there is something a little "different" about the download system Cakewalk is using these days. It's fast once it gets started, and seems to have a lot of capacity but it has done something weird on my browser (seamonkey) the last few times. It appears to start very slowly or not making any progress. Then, I click the "pause" control and then the "play" control on the download progress dialog, then it takes off at a very nice pace. What does that "pause" and "play" do to make it work better??? Bill B

Tom and Bill, thanks for the support. I was just going to let this go, as I usually do, 'cause I'm not here to have personal arguments with people. Chuck, sorry we got off on the wrong foot. The question I asked you in that other thread may have had an edge of rudeness to it (fairly rare for me, I think, but I have my moments), but I was serious. And, and the serious answer seems to have been that it was a new interface with which you were unfamiliar. Simple enough. That was not at all clear from anything I saw before posting, although - as I admitted in my edit - it appeared I had not seen everything that went before (also fairly rare for me) due to the thread not refreshing as expected. Based on what I had read, I honestly couldn't understand how you could have been making music without having that basic issue with input levels worked out - that's all. In any case, I'm willing to start over if you are. But I have to say that I'm not a fan of text-message-style posting, and will probably ignore a lot of what you post as a result.

OK brundlefly, so what's your accessment of X1 after installing the QuickFix? :) You know, inquiring minds want to know, and all that. :)

Plus I was busy at work, and with other things in the evening, so I haven't really done anything since installing it. I'm happy with all the X1b fixes, though, and pretty much ready to park 8.5.3 for good, especially now that Set Measure/Beat At Now is working properly again! My overall feeling is that X1b is now where it should have been at release with only a handful of significant defects remaining, most of which don't really affect me or that I can easily work around. And I'm warming up to the interface with a lot of help from Panup's mods.

I think there is something a little "different" about the download system Cakewalk is using these days. The download system is simply a client of Amazon S3. All the downloads are hosted and managed by amazons services used by thousands of companies. Amazon's service isn't perfect but its way more reliable and scalable than most companies IT departments could ever hope to achieve with a homegrown solution.

Yes, I noticed the "amazonews" (or similar) in the URL. I don't know what the problem is, but I've trouble with almost every download since Cakewalk started using that service, which is why I posted this. No big deal; just a little irritating to go through it every time. Slow downloads in the hours after a new release is posted would not surprise me, but chronic failure to start the file transfer or timeouts after 30+ minutes when a session started on another machine, (or sometimes even just a different session on the same browser) can get the file in seconds is disconcerting.

I've noticed that this (and other downloads, too, from different companies) will hang. It will churn and churn w/o downloading. I simply reload the download page. Bam, a few seconds for the X1b patch the second try. Hope this helps. @

I simply reload the download page. Bam, a few seconds for the X1b patch the second try. I have had luck with that before as well, sometimes starting 4-5 simultaneous downloads, and going with whichever one starts moving first/fastest. But in this case, even leaving the support page and starting over from scratch several times did not get it. I think something must have been cached in my browser (IE8) that was making it try the same bad server/node every time.

I've decided this is an IE8 issue. As with the last Quickfix, download for the 245 QuickFix would not start no-how, no-way on my DAW. So I went to my company laptop, and got it in a few seconds with Chrome. Then for grins, I tried IE8 on the laptop... no joy.

I'm sure everyone is tired of seeing this thread pop up every time a QuickFix is released... I am too. Just wanted to mention that I am installing the newly released IE9, and will see if that fixes it. If not, I'll install Chrome on my DAW.

Wave goodbye to this thread, everyone. IE9 solved the problem. How thoughtful of Microsoft to release a whole new verison of IE just to resolve my one little issue with downloading from amazonaws.
