Yep. It appears to be true. I just received this: "CBS News now reporting rocker Tom Petty has died, taken off life-support after being hospitalized in full cardiac arrest."

RIP Tom

How sad, such a wonderful musician. And just a month ago it was Walter Becker. I must be getting old myself.

An innovative musician, great songwriter, and had the cojones to stand up to the labels.  DAMN THE TORPEDOS!!!

This one really hurts.  Loved his music and his attitude.  Totally humble and never even needed to be.  He was almost his own genre.  No matter how out-there I get with musical pursuits, I can always melt in a chair with a roll-your-own to a Petty album.

Damn this sucks...

Not "almost". Dood was wicked pure for someone who managed to breakthrough in the industry.

Sheesh, he's barely cold and his wikipedia page has already been updated.
I'll have no trouble remembering this day, it's my 66th birthday. Tom was 66.

In 1988 when Roy Orbison died I called it the curse of the Traveling Wilburys. People called me crazy. But here we are 30 years later and only Bob Dylan and Jeff Lynne are left.

Tom had one of those perfect sidemen in Mike Campbell, love how everything he did served the song. Great partnership.
