I've been a P-I Member for just about two years now. I've saved on MB3, MB4, 32C V3 and 32C V4 as well as 50% off of all their plugs. I saved considerably more than the $216 I spent on membership and the upgrade prices.

YMMV

SO if you buy mb32 v 3 for $99 today and turn around and upgrade its $149 SO TOTAL cost is $249

is my arithmetic correct?

you still save $50

I think that's wrong. That $149 is for a MB V2/3 owner, not MB 32C V3 (there was no 32C V2).

People who bought 32C V3 for $99 got an upgrade offer of $129 for 32C V4. That's $228 for $299 list price product.

It sux (IMO) that the phrase Mixbus 2/3 can be misconstrued to mean Mixbus 32C, but it happens frequently.

Cakewalk keeps it real with SONAR Artist/Professional/Platinum names. Harrison kind of not.

$129 = I can wait.
TBH I wish I'd saved that $99 for something else, really don't have the time to mess with yet another DAW anyway.

as expected 2 months later Harrison dropped the upgrade price to $79 (probably for everybody on 32C v3) ... just got the mail ...

BTW, they quoted me $129 when they released it in May. contacting them back then did not help, so you need to sit and wait until they need to make their sales numbers ...

I have been offered the upgrade from V3 for $79. (M32C that is)

Remember with Starise we were doing some ITB  and OTB box tests earlier.  Just for fun I also compared mixing down a multitrack session of my son playing drums only for a Cirque audition. i.e. no music just the kit.  (Pristine recording too by the way. Sounds fabulous with no processing anywhere) I did two ITB mixes, one from Studio One and the other from Mixbus. I used no plugins on either. I also used no saturation either in Mixbus. I got a complete null or very very close to one that is.  That tells me that with no plugins present in Mixbus, it is not adding any sound at all to the mix. This did surprise me a bit actually and I am not rushing in to get M32C V4 either.  The best thing about M32C is the EQ section. But recently I picked up the SSL E Channel for a very good price and it too is a marvellous EQ as well. Very similar in fact.  I am not sure there is some huge magic mojo going on after all with Mixbus or M32C for that matter.

Harrison is more about the workflow, the GUI and the processing built into the channels, buses and the stereo buss. Plus their plugins which are excellent of course.

I find that I get less mojo if I only use buses for fx and route most/all track straight to the master.

IOW the buses are where the mojo is IMO.

That is an interesting point Bapu because in my experiments I literally bypassed the buses. I might try some things again and send everything to a buss first before going out to the master.  I still prefer to not use any EQ or saturation or any dynamics either even if I were to use a buss.  It is possible though the console emulation becomes more prominent on a buss.

But from memory in using a real Harrison console I also did not use buses all the time either. I often mixed direct to the stereo buss.  But most often the sound was coming in from a 2" 24 track. That would have something to do with it also I am sure.

To me bypassing the buses should (as you've seen) nearly get perfect nulls. I'd be interested in your comparrison (either audbly or by your written word) if there is a difference between the Studio One mix (as it now stands) and a mix where you do an all bus mix (even if it all is just goin to one bus.

One caveat. I never send a tracks to a bus and to the master. I turn of f the master and turn on the bus on the tracks. There might be times in the future where a parallel routing like that make sense but not so far, for me.

What I meant was send tracks to the buss and then route the buss to the master.  So in the end the tracks end up on the master but have to go through the buses first.  That is how I do it in Studio One anyway.

Yes, we're saying the same thing. That's what I do in SONAR and that's what I do in 32C.

I'm glad I waited a few months to upgrade to v4. Fifty bucks cheaper!

Well, that would be an interesting one to go after ... to see if / how much differences the buses do make. FWIW it's called Mixbus afterall ;-)

So, Jeff, if you find time for this, I'd be really interested in what your observations are!

The other - totally subjective but interesting - comparison would be to take Sonar or Studio One, reset "the desk" and mix for a short limited time period (e.g. one hour max, probably less). Knowing the mix you want to get using your well recorded drum material it should be possible to get a relatively good mix quickly. Then likewise on Mixbus 32C, same time limit. Then compare what it took to get there (e.g. how many tweaks in which places) and how happy you are with the results.

IMHO that's where musically well designed EQs, sat, comp should play in your favour and where differences in summing should make a difference if they indeed exist.

I know that this gives you two mixes that won't null by any means, but personally I'd be more interested in the subjective feedback of a very experienced person (who is not paid for biased advertising-like feedback) rather than if all the 1s and 0s add up to the same thing.
