TonePort UX2 recording problem with Windows XP SP3

I'm running a Windows XP SP3 system and have begun having a lot of trouble recording with the UX2, which I use as both my sound card and my recording interface. The main problem is that I'm trying to record my Juno Di synth through the Line 1 input at the back of the unit, and I'm not getting a clean signal, even though I'm using the 3-4 record outputs from the UX2, which are supposed to be unprocessed. No matter what I do now, I can't get a clean signal through the UX2... it's always processing it somehow. The other big problem is that it seems to be driving my computer CPU up even though I supposedly have the latest driver.

Theoretically, you can ALWAYS get a signal through the Line 1/2 inputs at the back, even without GearBox running, but I can't get anything without turning on GearBox, and then the sound is all processed, everywhere.

I know the answer is, Get a Windows 7 computer! But I just got laid off and that's not an option. Should I scrap this unit and buy a Gina3G instead (PCI card plus breakout box)? Or can I salvage this situation? Anyone else have the same problem?

Warm regards,
Richard

You only need to read the manual and learn how to use your UX2.
Mine is X3 live, but I believe it is identical to the UX2 in this regard:
You need to use ASIO, with WDM you can only record the mix (outs 1-2).
    Using ASIO, you should have:
    1-2 mix
    3-4 ch1
    5-6 ch2
    7 ch1 dry
    8 ch2 dry
Outs 3-4 are not the "dry" or unprocessed ones, 7-8 are (and their names are pretty descriptive).
Alternatively you could also use a preset without any processing (or any you may want) and record either the mix (1-2) or the wet outs (3-4 ch1, 5-6 ch2).
And Windows 7 will not help you with this at all, which i hope it is good news, coz you don't need to spend a dime to solve your issues. But anyway Windows 7 runs smoother.

I did read the manual and I'm using ASIO, but still have the problems.

Are you sure you are recording the DRY outs? In my interface they are outs 7-8, instead of 3-4 as you was using, 3-4 are the processed out for ch1.

The UX2 only has 4 outs, 1-2 and 3-4. The manual says that 3-4 are dry, and 1-2 are wet. You can tweak 3-4 so that they are partially wet, but I didn't do that.

I have a UX-2 and I found it impossible to use the POC under Vista(32bit). I don't know if it was the drivers or the hardware but I know that compared to other USB products in that price range(e.g. Edirol UA-25)... it just simply sucked. So much so that now that I've done a clean install of Win 7(64bit) I will not even dare contaminate my system with their drivers or software. Too much monkee business.
