Toneport UX2

Am toying with the idea of investing in a Line6 ux2, as it seems a really good piece of kit.
Question:
Can the ux2 be plugged into the Beyringer mixer and the signal be sent through m-audio on-board sound card. (Really happy with the m-audio)
I believe the UX2 has a built in soundcard and I don't want it to conflict.

    Hi Alan,

I am in there with you on the line 6 UX2. Trying to make up my mind if I should or shouldn't. Keep me posted as I will with you but don't buy until you let it set on your mind for a day. I almost bought without thinking things thru, not saying that you shouldn't get it but I have so many toys I'd like but which on e do I need most? So much fun and so little time!

And so little money with Christmas's just round the corner Bill...Should be thinking of the kids really, not buying toys for myself.
Its adictive all this music stuff.
I don't know if I can justify the UX2 as most of my stuff is Proteus keyboard.... Only use the old guitar occasionally.

BTW did you use a metal slider on your latest tune Bill?

    Alan,

It does have a built in sound card. I take it it is the modeling you're after? If so, they have let it be known there will be a version of the PodFram modeler plug in that will be iLok compatible. I hear that it will be available Q1 2009. Then you wouldn't need the interface and you could just continue to use the M-Audio.

    Hi Alan

It's a form of 'dongle' - basically a piece of hardware that must be attached to a computer for a piece of software on that computer to work properly, they're used mainly as an anti-piracy device.

They can have one big advantage though - as all the registration details are on the dongle it means you can have the software on a number of PC's without having to individually licence each copy.

At the moment, Line 6's software has an associated hardware dongle that is interlinked to the software in some way; the GearBox software and the TonePorts are a good example - the GearBox software doesn't work if the TonePort isn't connected, even if you are not using the inputs of the TonePort.

I think Doc's suggestion to see which way Line 6 is going to run with is good advice - mind you, I did spot that GAK are currently running an £99 offer on the UX2 → http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/line6-toneport/68598 - its RRP is over £170 but you'd never expect to pay that much normally (Dolphin have it for £109 at the moment).

Ta for the info Steve. Doc has it sussed I'll take his advice and see what develops in 2009.
Seems like a bit of an upheaval and a load of faffing around for a bit of modelling. As you know I don't use the old Gueeetar anywhere near as much as you guys.

I have the combination of MAudio delta 1010 and the UX2 and I'm afraid it does conflict with all Cakewalk programs. If I have the UX2 pluged in, it is the only soundcard option for audio in all my Cakewalk programs. I record guitar with UX2 then do vocals and synths with the M-Audio card after I unplug the UX2 and restart Cakewalk.

    Alan,

One thing Strummy didn't mention is that the iLok key can hold several licenses (130 if I recall correctly). It's nice if you are using more than one software package that requires an external key dongle that is iLok compatible. For me it works out great as I use an iLok for my copy of Melodyne, and I'm looking at some other software that utilizes the key as well. The downside is it eats a USB port that could otherwise be used for something else (not that I would recommend USB for any type of processing). The other advantage is when going from studio to studio you can just take your key with you. At times I wish my cakewalk software utilized iLok....
