Too Long....featuring 'Guitarhacker' (Suntoucher Remix)

Howdy Music Lovers

A recent song sketch I posted was met with the cool suggestion from Jamesyoyo to do a 'Groove' version which resulted in this stylised conversion of the original track. Since posting Herb Hartley 'Guitarhacker' kindly stepped up and offered his services to the 'cause.

Before rushing off to listen then......kindly indulge me a just a little here for a little on my thoughts about our very own 'Hacker' as he's done wonders here IMO as he normally does on pretty much every thing I've heard him play on. Not only that he's one of the nicest guys round these parts.

When I first got involved in music there were only pretty much 2 types of electric Guitar...Fender or Gibson, single coil or humbucker pick-ups and you used one or the other to get the particular tone each one excelled at. These days you can get countless variations on the same themes but there is so much processing power you can shove any half-decent axe through some unit or another and make it sound anyway you like which to mind contributes to why I believe when I hear many modern tracks they often sound lacking that extra WOW factor. I know that is a simplistic point of view from a drummer that knows little about the subject of guitars but I'm making a point here...

Now, in our own unsung hero Herb we have a brilliant example of the real deal, someone who knows how to handle his trusty '69 Gibson SG and make it sing like it was meant to and he regularly turns out some of the best sounding Guitar tracks on this lil' ol' forum that I've heard for many a year.

I'm sure he'll hate me for saying all that but I just wanted to say it out loud....no pressure there then GH...

Fan rant over....don't take my word for it though check for yerself.

Jon and Herb this sounds great. Sure like the groove and sounds. That is a great job with the guitar. It sounds to me that it was worked out to begin with. That's cool.
Very tasteful musicianship from you guys. Ace.
Had to listen with cans and it sounds great.

    Cheers guys!

Pretty awesome. I love the way the guitars fit with this, and the sound you are getting in this mix is phenomonal IMO. It kinda reminds me of something out of the 70s? Very nice colaboration.

very well done, the only little nit or crit was at some points the acoustic felt or sounded outaplace but everything else was spot on.

During the first half, guitar does not seem to overwhelm nor get routy (on my Adams)

Ah, but at 2:08 our guitar hero breaks forth and chimes most celestially.

At 3:20 ish the LT guitar notes are sublime as they gradually combine with the RT. (I detect a sweet 'guitar sliding' artifact) The guitar effects fit sweetly to your piece.

All the instruments join together in perfect harmony for this luscious ride.

WOW! Definitely enjoying this piece! Love the ARP-style pads throughout. And the guitar work is purely majestic. Nice chords on those keys. Some serious talent on display here. Gonna share this with my friends for sure. Thanks for sharing.

Michael: Not sure what you meant by worked out to begin with but I'm glad you liked it.

Ed: I'd have thought you'd have got bored of listening to my stuff by now... Herb hit this nicely though.

Robby: Thanks for the props on the sound here, I tried a different approach here and set up a separate mastering project after it was mixed and it seems to have worked out well here. I wish I could do it everytime...

Alkie: I agree that the fake acoustic sounds 'pants' listening again maybe I should turn it down at least.

Rocky: Thanks man, 'Tasty Herb' I like it...I wonder if that one will stick...

Tom: WOW, thanks I think you'd better sit down now I'm getting kind of embarrassed, in a good way though.

Philip: Your appraisals are always poetry to my ears.

Rick: I agree, hopefully I can twist his arm to do some more in '09. TYVM

Herb: Take a bow my good man. And thanks again.

Janet: Nice comment appreciated, as always.

Slow Marching Band: James, Larry thanks I REALLY appreciate this praise from you two

Kev: Thanks, always nice to get the thumbs up from the windy city.

TRAFFIK: Sharing is caring... Thanks for the kind words.

Duane: Given the quality of your mixes I take that as high praise indeed.

Paul: Thanks me ol' mucker... Appreciate it.

Many thanks to all for the listen and a clear round of positive comments, I've gotta thank the 'yoyo' here as well for nudging me in this direction.
Like many here I've been up to my neck in it lately apparently it's something to do with Christmas so I haven't been able to spend as much time here as I normally like so I really appreciate those that have managed to put it out there the last week or so.

Well have a good one y'all as it is officially Christmas now.

Tom: Thanks pal, I tried a different approach mixing and mastering this one looking at all the positive comments I think I'll use some of the lessons learned here again.

This is pretty darn cool, has a sophisticated swing about it, without sounding canned and cheesy (easy to do with modern home tools like sonar). It sounds very big too.
