Too Rolling Stoned (Robin Trower cover)

Sorry I'm always posting covers guys, but I play in two different cover bands and not much of a writer.. I do have some more originals that  I haven't posted, but they are a little far of the floydian end... But I have some pretty descent recordings that i made for our band demos. So I'll throw them at you now and then

    Love It!!!

    Great work with the guitar!!!

You got the chops AND captured the vibe.

I think the snare could use just a bit more woody tone and maybe a bit more snare sizzle as well. Cymbals sounded very nice.

    best regards,

Hey Cliff... I'm glad you noticed..I've been waiting to be critisized about how dry the recording is....That was what I was after... If I can capture a performance without having to fill it up with effects ...less is better is all i can say...LOL.. I did put a little verb on my guitar just to capture a bit more of Robins sound..I have modeled my tone after him as much as I can. I just love that creamy tone of his... Oh by the way I had lost the love for him during the 80's.. He got a little crazy with the effects and messed up some songs with experimentation.. IMHO... BUT... a couple of albums ago... The title of the album is "Living Out of Time " Man he went back to playing old school and it really kicks butt !!! The new vocalist (Davey Pattison) Sounds almost identical to James Dewar.... Robin got his groove back!!!! You really need to hear that album..it's spectacular!!! once again IMHO....

remember, the "EFFECT" that made trower sound so good on bridge of sighs, wasn't really an effect at all...

it was a dual mic setup, with a very distant room mic, mixed with a close mic.

to hear a dramatic example of this, listen to the opening guitar trills on 'bridge of sighs', as the distant room mic starts the song, and by the end of the trill, the close mic is brought in, and remains that way for the duration of the mix.

I haven't bought playful heart yet but what I've heard is very good..I'll stop and get it on the way to work today... His last album(the one before playful heart), he did the vocals on... Not real crazy about his singing.. There is one effect that he uses that I forgot about , a vibe pedal..I did use a fulltone deja vibe on this recording also..but ever so lightly...He did use a vibe pedal on Bridge of Sighs too..It has been a staple of his as long as I can remember.. I've seen the man every time he comes to town since 2008.. I remember seeing him when Boston opened for him back in the 70's...nobody knew who Boston was...LOL
Thanks for the good vibe guys !!!

This song is perfect.  Great singing, bass, drums and especially love your guitar tone.   A Dr. Z amp?  How did you record it?

Now these days we have these over-synth produced songs.  They are like no-way to play it live.  Have you heard of OneWorldSon?  You guys sound like them.

With a live sound like that (and of course if I could play like that ) I would be doing the same thing!!!
I think your just keeping it honest....It's a great sound!

But just not one would expect in a "Recorded" situation........but there is NOTHING wrong with it at all.....just different........and in this case.......different is good!

Great playin', stratrat1!! The Dr. Z and you make a great team.

The new vocalist (Davey Pattison) Sounds almost identical to James Dewar....

Actually, Davey's not really 'new', he's been with Trower for something like 30 years. I worked in a band with him in the early 90's.

Nice song choice, very well done.

    Hey,

This is really excellent!  Great playing and vocals, punchy bass and drums, stellar guitar tone and a crisp, pro sounding mix.  Also very nice job of making it your own version.

Years ago I played and sang this and "Day of the Eagle" in my cover band, I think I wore out my "Bridge of Sighs" 8-track tape!

Nice work, have a good one!

Nicely done....I'm also a big Trower fan and you guys did an exceptional job on this!
On my laptop (earbuds), the bass sounded a bit thin, but that could be just the laptop's cheap audio. Good mix too.... I likes it!!!
