Too much!!!
I hate commercials! Has anyone else here noticed that we're now up to a staggering 20 minutes of mind-numbing ads during each hour of TV? I hate commercials! Remember when it was about five minutes at the top of the hour (and we thought THAT was annoying?). I hate commercials! Then it became five minutes at both the top and bottom of the hour, then even more squeezed in... I hate commercials! Now it feels like they should announce "We now interrupt our ads for a brief portion of your regular show." I hate commercials! What's even worse, now most of the On Demand content as well as movies you actually buy have the blasted ads in them! I hate commercials! For a while, when I had a DVR with my cable, I would record most everything I wanted to see just to avoid the ads. I hate commercials! Unfortunately, I no longer have a DVR and, even if I did, I might still be tempted to just leave the vidiot box off (which it mostly is now). I hate commercials! So much for progress. How long before we start getting bombed by "personalized" ads while we walk outside like you saw in that movie? I hate commercials! And, for that matter, what movie was that anyway??? I can't remember! I hate commercials!

I don't watch TV much any more - haven't for years. the ads not only are obnoxious, they're insulting to our intelligence (well, to people with any intelligence), the audio is brick walled so that they will get your attention with their "loudness," and some of them are even downright offensive. My wife does watch a good bit of TV but she does exactly what you describe with the DVR. she almost never watches TV "live." as far as the ads on youtube - those are REALLY annoying to me. you can't always skip them, sometimes you have to wait thru them. those are REALLY annoying to me.

<insert name of your favorite deity here> bless the BBC. Programs made by/for BBC viewing are 30 or 60 minutes long (- titles). You can always tell when they've bought in from a commercial station as the programs are only 40/45 minutes.

I don't mind an ad--now and then--but I they just keep showing the same ones over and over like think we'll eventually buy the damn things if we see enough of them. C'mon, at least change the damned ads once in a while--and while you're at it--turn the volume down enough so we don't need ear plugs!

Then there are the adverts stuck everywhere you look...find a bus stop? Another ad stuck to it... Go by a tree..ad stuck to it... Radio programming centered specifically around the ads... Next thing to expect..little genetically engineered flying insects buzzing around inside your car screaming about the next big product they are advertising for your 'listening pleasure'. When I lived in Germany, all the commercials were on before and after the actual program. Even movies were shown non-stop. The problem is, they were all in German. Well, most of them. Sometimes they had old movies in English without overdubbing.

I still hate commercials! Yep, it wasn't the Truman Show (never saw that one). It was something like Minority Report, I-Robot or Total Recall... One of those futuristic type flicks. I still hate commercials!

I need at least a few commercials in between for snacks and a bathroom break. I use the DVR mostly though and FF/ Pause it at the appropriate times, that is when I ever get the chance to watch TV. On vacation last week at the shore laying on the beach under the umbrella reading and guess what we see?? An airplane going by with an advertising banner trailing behind it. Prime time looks to be very interesting this upcoming season(..BARF..) A show about Playboy bunnies??I'm not against pretty girls but during prime time and the message this is sending?Just what I would want my daughter to aspire to. Can't they come up with anything better than this?

I don't know how I watched anything before I had a DVR. My hope is as DVR's get more and more common, it will eventually force advertisers to abandon the "deliberately annoying but memorable" types of commercials. But most commercials I just don't respond to. Maybe it's just me, but when I see a bunch of people partying in a beer commercial, I usually have absolutely no desire to spend any time with those people. And then there are some people who actually watch infomercials, so...
In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

TBS and SyFy are terrible at putting commercials in their movies. I refuse to even DVR anything on those channels because they cut so much of the movie out to make room for their commercials. SyFy (Used to be SciFi, they changed the name for some idiotic reason??) isn't what it used to be either. When they first came on the air they showed real scifi like Star Trek TOS and other great shows like that. They went the way of MTV which used to be great too, but now, what is it? Why is it even called Music TV anymore? The worst one is that CI (Crime Investigation) channel. There were so many commercials, and not a variety. They show the same commercials for their own shows on every break and the breaks last forever. You end up getting maybe 10 minutes of a half hour long show? Honestly, I could get rid of Dish Network and I wouldn't miss it a bit, but the wife likes it so it stays. She likes these shows with the gay guys selling wedding dresses and decorating apartments. I don't get it. Must be a chick thing. She does like that show called My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding which I always come out of my music room to watch with her. Just because I'm a loving husband and want to spend time with her. ;-)

Just another reason to have a Commercial Channel to dump all commercials on. Luckily, I only have 5 channels via antenna.
