Toontrack AOR Midi packs

When bands like Boston, Journey, Toto, The Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan rose to international fame in the late ’70s, someone had already coined the divider Adult Oriented Rock (AOR) to set this new, lush and often technically inclined genre apart from its more rowdy sibling, classic rock. With its huge hooks, slick, layered productions and musical prowess, it became the new, widely accepted soundtrack to not only mainstream USA, but the world. Suddenly, rock wasn’t all about being loud. Now, songwriting, performance and skill were front and center, not least in terms of drummers. Players like Jeff Porcaro, Bernard Purdie and Steve Gadd would go on to inspire a whole new generation of drummers around the world.

A EZ Keys midi pack and an EZ Drummer midi pack. These are an easy decision for me. And... Bapu doesn't have everything,wait... now he has everything again. Well played, my man.

Could be useful 😊 But isn't "Adult Oriented Rock" the worst name for a genre ever?

someone that purchases this pack please give a rundown review.

I listen to that AOR music all the time - I like Boston and Kansas as well as hardcore trance so sue me.

the demo's for this really.....well to me they suck, they sound like someone practicing drums, honestly. to me, sorry.  maybe I am missing something here.

enlighten me.

A few have a definite Steely Dan feel. I can't write like that, but it's fun to jam to.

Keep in mind these are two separate products, the EZKeys and the Midi Grooves (drums) pack.  Sounds like you were listening to the latter.  The Keys' demos are all keys (no drums).

I'm a bit with you MC. The keys sounded like a recording of me (non-pianist) playing the piano wearing oven gloves.

Isn't that what all keys players did in the 70s or did I just have an acid flackbash?

Think you're right. There was some kind of muffled sound to it all.

I'm thinking even Hendrix on guitar didn't have a fuzz box. He just wore a pair of these to play in.

Welp...I noted that the first demo is the famous "Purdie Shuffle"  Played by Bernard Purdie for Steely Dan and Jeff Porcaro for Toto...and many, many more.

But I think they should have called it "Yacht Rock".  Much better name.

Since I buy the generic 6 Pack serial numbers for EZD and EZK I find that ~$12.50US per pack is not a waste of money.

I think I'm going to buy this one.  I'm a Steely Dan and Doobies fanatic, and I also like Toto, but frankly, I never thought of Kansas or Boston as AOR, they are much harder-edged, and guitar oriented, where SD, Doobies, and Toto had much stronger keyboard presence--and as a pianist, I'm partial to that, heh heh. Either way, I'm glad to see TT getting into this genre, whatever you want to call it. I'm not a Metal guy at all, and lately they've had a lot of new releases geared to Metal--not for me.
