Well Audiodeluxe has it for $59.99 which is the best initial release savings I've seen on a new Toon EZX. Especially one with 8 kits.

I was about ready to get this but stopped. I remembered that I'm using SD3 and BFD eco a lot more due to the simple fact that on my system, I use 96k sample rate, and it just takes so friggin long for ezd to load it's samples.
Am I the only one experiencing this?

Agree with Mod...tres fab. Of course, I'm a huge Dorfsman fan. Did have sort of a glitch when authorizing. Seems they've switched to a new authorization dialog which generates all new computer ids. Since I had tried to "do it the old way" I ended up with two authorizations instead of one. I hipped Toon to this and they deleted the uneeded extra authorization. The new authorization dialog just asks for your "computer description" not, apparently, it's id number like before. In any case I'm running hot straight and normal and...this is a great EZX.

Just listened to the demos - like the Sound of the High and Dry kit. Sounds great. It says there is an extensive midi package included - can someone who has this let me know a little more - ie is it organized into different "songs" by bpm and then into chorus / verse / end etc Cheers Nigel

The package is set up in song format. Fourteen songs at varying tempo, meter and style. The drummer is Martin Kristofferson who is also on the beta team. I like his more down to earth style instead of slinging his best licks and grooves and hoping someone can find something that will fit against them.
Fourteen songs doesn't sound like much but each song section (Verse, prechorus, chorus, bridge and fills) has variations (2 to 4, (10 for fills)) and the grooves are 4 bars long so there is quite of bit of midi there.

Yup...if unprocessed drums are your thing these are not for you. But if you like kits that are already 90% of the way there...yowsa. Sort of like the Slate stuff.

Yea. i looked at the Toontrack video and it was pretty clear that these are heavily processed so that you don't have to do much to them. There are some dry kits, but the majority look and sound highly processed. Having said that, it looks like a lot of bang for the buck in that there are a boatload of cymbals and 8 kits. I wonder, however, if these 8 klts are just different processed versions of what we have already with different EZX libraries, and perhaps all those cymbals are already available if you already own most of the other EZX libraries. Not sure, but would be interested in hearing if the components are new, or just further processed versions of EZX kits what we already have.

In this age of presets (or mindmelds as McQ is liken to call them) does it really matter?

The kits are made up of previously recorded TT samples with Neil Dorfman's own personally recorded sample collection layer over them and processed to his liking.
As mentioned previously, I would guess this is targeted at people who like the Slate sample collections. This collection has a flavor and isn't really meant to be tweaked a great deal.

Thanks for the info Mod Bod; I thought they were somewhat replicates. Given that they are over-layered with Dorfman's samples and processed, they will probably have a slightly different character or tone to them. To be honest, even though I initially was skeptical when I watched the video, upon further reflection I will also probably purchase these--well once these are heavily discounted later this year by Audiodeluxe I will. Like BAPU implies above, we pay for presets. One way of looking at this is that this EZX is kind of like getting extra "producer presets" but instead of it being for an SDX where such are usually found it is for an EZX.

To be honest with you, all through testing, I didn't have a clue that they were using some of the previously released samples because they all sound new and different because of the layering and processing. I found out about the layering of the Dorfman samples because the hits (samples) were louder than we expected them to be. This is a "produced" sample collection so I would advise to listen to some of Dorfman's work or relate them to the artists he produces and engineers. It's all about commercial sounding drums and not so much about "realism" or an organic playing sample collection (in a drummer's perspective.) It reminds me of "show dogs" that you would see at a typical Dog Show. It's incredible how many unnatural things you have to do to these dogs (and force them to endure) in order to make them look like the best of their breed.

For that reason, I would probably really like this release. I don't like to do a ton of work on processing the drums. I would rather have them be close to what I am looking for and only have to tweak the EQ and levels a little to make the other instruments fit around them. When I started using Slate Drums in many of my recordings, suddenly I was getting quite a few comments about how good the drums were sounding in my demo's. I even sent a track to Danny to have him give it a quick listen and one of the comments back from him was.."what drum samples are you using, they sound killer". I guess, why not use the processing done by a pro, if it fits for your songs and style?
