Totally Excited About The Future Of Cakewalk
I for one am very happy the Cakewalk DAW will live on. I hope the initial changes are minimal and the GUI stays as it is for awhile. I would be really disappointed if it started looking like bubble pop or a menu from Chuck E Cheeze.

I’ll second that. If I read Meng’s post correctly the “new” Sonar will not overwrite our existing install. Let’s stop “speculating” and wait for the “new” release. T

Tom: Your right, I shouldn't be speculating to much of that going on already, I'm really glad that the DAW I've been using since moby dick was a minnow will remain operational.

I would imagine that is largely because it will install to c/program files/bandlab (or whatever) rather that c/program files/cakewalk. That and the fact that the new version may not be allowed to contain some of the licensed stuff, plus it has the added benefit that if they did manage to screw something up during the respray existing installations will be unaffected = less backlash. Speculation, although largely pointless, is actually far more interesting than "becan", so I'm ok with it personally.

I still find myself getting used to the new GUI but I like the layout and workflow. I've set myself up with a two monitor system and I rarely encounter any crashing still using windows 7 64 on an i5 intel with 16 gigs of ram. My wife hammers it with midi and I use it mostly for audio and I find it's more than capable. I have tried other DAWS but I always come back to Cakewalk for the workflow and creativity with audio and midi. PS: The reason I'm dragging my feet in upgrading to windows 10 is the nasty windows 10 GUI with the tile sets and child like functionality. I don't wish to play bubble pop, I wish to do something worthwhile with my time

Win10 looks like like win 7 got together with win 8 and they had an ugly, ginger kid IMO.

The UI of win 10 is more than I can deal with. A real mess IMHO, although may have given up too soon to understand the inner glory. If you turn off the slit-your-wrists automatic updates and do some fine tuning, win 10 is good, stable and coming into its own. If you could find anything efficiently from the start page. Most may already know about this, but Classic Shell is an excellent freeware cloak to reverse the kid on an ipad fiasco they are trying to cater to. Downside is that Classic Shell is abandonware now, from the end of last year. Still however works great. No CPU drag or glitches trying to return the current maze back to a civilized XP experience. Highly recommended. Will make windows life a lot easier with just a couple mouse clicks. http://www.classicshell.net/ John

Win10 has “inner glory”?
Sonar Platinum 64bit, Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit, I7 3770K Ivybridge, 16GB Ram, Gigabyte Z77-D3H m/board, ATI 7750 graphics+ 1GB RAM, 2xIntel 520 series 220GB SSDs, 1 TB Samsung F3 + 1 TB WD HDDs, Seasonic fanless 460W psu, RME Fireface UFX, Focusrite Octopre. Assorted real synths, guitars, mandolins, diatonic accordions, percussion, fx and other stuff.

Don't know, maybe it does. If so, I missed the boat. Trying to step back from my ignorance, prejudice stuff, but keeps coming back with the same equation.. I hate the damn interface of win 8 and forward, but many others, especially any 6 year old kid with an i-phone touch screen may disagree. Rebranding the interface back to the XP mode is just more consistent with my ingrained habits. Way more organized and straightforward. John
