Touble with midi drums in Music Creator 6

I am creating a backtrack to play a cover song live. I downloaded a midi file from the web and re-recorded all instruments in audio tracks, except for the drums. But still, the midi drums are causing me problems.

First, if I try to ouput the midi to "Microsoft GS Waveable Synth" I cannot export the audio to wav or mp3.

Second, I tried changing the drum soft synth to Cakewalk TTS-1 and using midi channel 10 as suggested in other threads. The drums sound somewhat better, but still I cannot export drums to audio (never mind this part of not being able to export with Cakewalk TTS-1... I just tried exporting and it worked fine now).

Third, using the Cakewalk TTS-1 soft synth, when there are more complicated drum parts, some notes sound as gunshots. This only happens when I play the song from beginning. If I stop and start close to the troubled section it works fine.

Fourth, I tried using Drum Map, some Alesis D4 Hard Roncking' Set. It sounds even better than the TTS, but still cannot export to mp3.

Fifth, I tried the Studio Instruments Drum Kit. The Drum kit does not start properly. When I play the song, I have to go to the SI Drum Kit interface, and change the program... then the drums start playing. No matter which drum set I choose.

Sixth, I had problems with SI Drum Kit not finding files. Then I realized Cakewalk installed part of the files under Program Files and part under Program Files (x86). This was fixed when I copied the sound files in both places.

Seventh, I already registered SI, but when I start it from Music Creator, it asks to Register Again, but I cannot do it because I am not logged as administrator. If I start Music Creator as administrator, it does not ask me to Register SI again.

correct, you're not going to be able to export using MS GS wavetable synth as output.  you'll have to bounce it to an audio track first then export.  MS GS Wavetable is a pain and is not a good synth anyway.  I'd recommend TTS 1 over MS GS Wavetable.

3rd - the problem with the drums not sounding exactly right might be from your soundcard and its settings.  if you're using your onboard soundcard, you might need to change to MME driver mode and change to the SAFE side of latency.

4th - you tried using a drum map for what?  drum maps are not sounds - they are just "maps" to route one MIDI note to another.  you can't use drum maps without softsynths, it doesn't work that way.

5th I don't understand what you mean by "go to the SI Drum Kit interface and change the program."

SI is not registered separately from MC, I don't understand what you're seeing here.

Thank you for your answer. Here are some additional details.

3rd. I assume you are talking about the Preferences/Audio/Device settings. I have my Driver Mode set to MME (32 bits) and Mixing Latency set to 360 ms. Is this good enough? I am using a laptop, but is brand new, Dell, i7, 8GB or RAM. I think the sound card is good, but not a professional one.

4th - I selected the drum midi track, opened the Output dropdown box, and then clicked New Drum Map/Alesis D4 Hard Rockin' Set. So, if I usnderstood it correctly, after setting the drum map, my output was still going to MS GS Wavable?

5th. In the midi track output I select SI-Drum Kit 1, and when I double-click the output field, it opens a new window, with the title SI-Drum Kit 1-nameofhtemycakewalkproject, and the image of an actual drum set, with controls for volume, reverb, compress, etc. This is when a Registration window pops up on top of this one. I just select Register Later and continue. At the left top corner there is a field saying PRG. If I click that field it opens a new Program Browser window, where I can change the program and select things like "Agressive Kit.prog".

Thanks again,

Marcelo

"Seventh, I already registered SI, but when I start it from Music Creator, it asks to Register Again, but I cannot do it because I am not logged as administrator. If I start Music Creator as administrator, it does not ask me to Register SI again. " You should be able to just right click the short/.exe and go to properties. Go to the compatibility tab, then check the box for "run this program as an administrator". So then every time you open it up it will automatically open in admin mode. The only thing reason that I can think is causing this is you might've been logged in as an admin while installing. Now that you're not it's seeing you as a separate installer. Maybe try to uninstall then watch closely for the "install for only me" or "install for all users".

Thanks, that fixed it. Hopefully Cakewalk software won't allow hackers into my system

Anyway, I think it has to do with 64 and 32 bits versions. It seems that they are registered individually. I guess the Windows Menu opens the 64 bits version and MC the 32 bit version. Anyway, running MC as administrator fixed it. Thanks again.

Who really "allows" hackers into any system.....?   That's the nature of what they do..... they come in by hacking their way in...

I don't think that's a cause for worry ....... nothing really to be gained here.  They like military secrets and bank account numbers and such things.
