Touch Monitor

Since Slate Digital just released this year their Raven control surface/monitor.. the "Touch" feature of Sonar X2 (which I have ;-) has been sounding more and more appealing... So Hmmm... how to proceed..

I have a current DAW desktop PC I built for my audio.. and run a DUAL LCD monitor system.. I know I can BUY a touch monitor but really don't know a damn thing about how to proceed. I guess the monitor has a USB connection to the PC plus a video signal? Would I be able to connect it to my PC via HDMI and USB or something and "drag" the mixer as floating to it and use it to mix.. and the other two monitors for the MultiDock? Or does the WHOLE RIG need to be "touch monitors" to work in Sonar?

Also, would the TOUCH feature work with some third party plugins? Or will it only work with Stock and ProChannel?

Thanks

You can use a multi-touch monitor with standard monitor/s in a multi-monitor setup.
I use a 27" Samsung (standard) with a 27" Planar Helium in a vertical configuration (works great).
The Planar connects via DVI or Displayport... touch-features are via a USB connection

    Touch works with any plugin.
The Pro Channel has been enhanced to specifically work with touch (ie: scrolling up/down).
Note that you can put normal VST plugins in the Pro Channel via EFX Chains.

Thanks Jim.. that sounds cool.. I might need to "add" that third "touch" monitor then.. so instead of a control surface I'll have a touch monitor.. that would be cool!!! =) and keep the other two screens for the "info" page and main window in X2. =)

I agree and I'm looking forward to getting a touch screen at some point in the future.

Dell has a 21.5" Touch screen on sale.  Mine was delivered today, so I can't wait to get home from work to try it out!  I paid under $320 which included the Dell 21.5" Touch Monitor S2240T, 5 year warranty, shipping & tax.

    Thanks,
    Lou

WOW!! That looks awesome!! And with it being able to "lie down" would be killer to use as a "control surface." It would almost work/feel like using a console.. HOT DAMN!! =)

I picked up and Acer 27" touch monitor and absolutely love it.  The stand is set up so you can almost flatten in out or almost vertical it with one hand.  I was initially going to get this touch and a 40" + for other functions but this 27" is, so far, handling all the duties.  The touch surface works great with Sonar and other programs too.  I still use my mouse and Alpha track with each having their strengths and weaknesses.

I just picked up a refurbished 27 Acer touch for a bit over $400 with shipping from AMAZON... I already have the 23 inch ACER that I thought I would use to try touch.... which I have found I love but just a bit too small for my needs (I am getting up in age and my eyesight isn't what it used to be) and hope that this monitor will be a bit easier for me to use.  I plan on going dual touch with my SONAR DAW.

However, I have found that some functions are easier with the mouse so even though I have touch and use SONAR in a touch/mouse/keyboard dual function mode. CONTROL S to save on the keyboard, mouse to LOAD files and the touch to mix and turn knobs on VST plugins.

As a side note, I have a MS SURFACE RT (which are dirt cheap now) and with WIN 8, can easily be setup to serve as a remote desktop to the DAW and use it in my studio to easily control recording while in the tracking room without going back to the DAW to track live instruments that I play...

Technology is surely getting wonderfully amazing.
