Touch screen in sonar x series UPDATED
update again... installed win 8.1 and it works.. but selecting a track when you touch it like clicking on it wont work.. all the rest works great!!! UPDATE: After going through the settings in the control panel I found a setting that said Turn on single finger panning. I unchecked that and now the faders move and all but they dont follow my finger. They go fast from top to bottom.. But when its unchecked the scrollling up and down the pro channel doesnt work.. I think i should just move to win 8.1 ANy suggestions? Original message: Hello!! I just got a touch screen to use with sonar x3 and its all nice. But in Sonar the faders in the console view and the pro channel effects dont respond to touch. When I try to move a fader it doesnt work. All plugins work nice even nice in Dimension pro. But waves plugins dont work in sonar with touch.. Pinch zoom doesnt work either. So I opened Pro Tools 9 just to try it and in Pro Tools everything works as it should faders, pinch zoom, waves plugins and all the rest work in Pro tools 9. I am running windows 7 and I know sonar doesnt support multitouch in win 7 but the faders?? And then why does everything work great in pro tools? By the way the faders are very accurate in pro tools with touch. How can Sonar promote x3 touch an bla bla when it dont work but it works in Pro tools 9 that came out in 2009 -2010? Am I dong something wrong?? Or do I need to have win 8 for it to work with Sonar.?? Thanks!!

Are you running Pro Tools on a Mac or PC? If you haven't already please update to X3D and perform a VST reset. It would be nice if you could update your footer so we know more about your system (please see my footer).. You are running the latest versions of the plugins? Finally I would be more specific here to get your point across, rather than do blanket coverage please concentrate on one plugin at a time and show us exactly what your issue is in detail, maybe some screenshots. > Or do I need to have win 8 for it to work with Sonar.?? Very good question, I don't think so but others may correct me. Why don't you try it? > And then why does everything work great in pro tools Maybe that's the way to go... Thanks..

I believe win 8 is required. See a few demo videos from cake where the faders also work. They were preparing sonar for touch since x1 and x2. X3 is great. Good luck andenj oy making music!

Hey thanks for the replies!! Well my system is Windows 7 Ultimate, Intel Core i3-3220 CPU 3.30 GHz RAM 4 GB 32bit operating system Hp Pavilion Touch Monitor M-Audio Fast Track C600 What happens is when I try to drag a fader or a knob in the console view, sonar ses it as navigating through the project. Even if t shows the fader is selected it doesnt move. I cakewalk plugins and soft synths it works as it should very nice. The thing is that in pro tools 9 everything works. Even the waves plugins that dont respond in sonar they do in pro tools 9. I dont want to update to windows 8 yet that why im asking if anyone knows anything. Maybe it will be the same in win 8?

when I got my touchscreens, I tried them in Win7 for about a day or so (I was already planning on W8.1 because of the multitouch), just to see how it would work. I experienced close to the same issues as you - it wasn't very accurate and things like buttons and fader operations were pretty inconsistent. You can try recalibrating touch in the Windows Control Panel, but I don't think it will fix much. The short of it - Sonar really needs Win8 to get proper touch operation

Can you layer 8.1 over 7 now, or is the bestest way to install it fresh? Got touch, but would really like pinch and fader control. @

I did 8 over 7 and then 8.1 over 8 without a problem. Now that I'm thinking about it,when i updated to 8 over 7 I think that I had to re-install NI Komplete 8 . Sonar worked fine though.

If you do have an issue upgrading vs a clean install, Windows 8 has a function called "Refresh" . Run this function and you will end up clean installation.

I've been running sonar on my HP ENVY Recline 27" Touchsmart PC and got to say never really use the touch - I find the knobs and faders and stuff are too small and also the precision in using them with touch is just not there - much better to use a mouse. The other controls and pulldown menus and stuff is just unusable with touch. IMO the whole design of Sonar needs to change so that it has that Metro look and feel.. I'd like to see a special Sonar touch version to extend the boundaries of the physical screen so you can scroll pages left to right or even in a sort of octagon screen thingy... Something similar to what Samsung smart TV use to navigate between windows... My 2 cents.. Jim

> IMO the whole design of Sonar needs to change so that it has that Metro look and feel.. NO! Just No. That is all Ok there's more, more touch friendly maybe (the menus look ancient, so does the UI built around the menus in Sonar), and make it prettier sure, as long as the original functionality isn't given a hike (like the missing windows start button). Metro look though - yuk! If I ever see a mixing desk that looks like Metro, one day I might just vomit all over it (call it track colouring or something). Cheers

hehe that's what Metro is all about though, so that you can use touch features a lot more effectively and lose some other features - something like Skype metro (Useless)... One thought in the design aspect so that touch can be useful is to touch a component and it zooms in and is the focus and then when you're done with it you can give it the flick and it de-zoom it back into the app

Want to know how your car will look after being redesigned for the metro interface? I'm told Cakewalk supports gestures but only on the forums ;). Have a good week :).

well im upgrading to windows 8.1 now.. Thats the only solution. Anyway, I dont have really big hands and thick fingers. the Sonar X3 GUI is ok for me. I can hit any button or when you are trying to move a plugin parameter you just move your finger a bit to the side so you can see the knob completely and tweak it. The same goes for pan and stuff. Then for the faders you do the same and u you can see the volume number just under the fader anyway. But its all about hearing and listening to the volume of a track in the end. But then again, a better design would really be better!! Lets see how it goes in windows 8.1 now...

I have a 23" Acer touch screen and I have no problem moving faders, panning ,mute, solo , setting loop points ,selecting screensets.... Even 3rd party stuff like BFD2. You can preview drum sounds by tapping on the GUI. I couldn't see being without a touch screen at this point. Every once in a while I'll miss a button or fader but I've had that happen using a mouse also.

ok so i updated to windows 8.1 and it works!! the faders the knobs and all work. the plugins can be controlled.so.. eventually it needed win 8. i find that the faders and knobs are accurate as much as a mouse. just mentioning cos in some forums i have read that the faders wont be accurate. but they are.. the only thing i dont like is that when u touch a track in the console view, sonar doesnt select it. if u have the inspector open on the side, touching a track wont follow that track. touching a track wont select it. you can control the parametes faders buttons knobs but it wont select it. bummer... come on.. they are promoting touch and thwy dont have the basics working.. pfffff.... anyone else having the same issue?

You don't want the focus to always go to the track you touch because you can touch ten tracks at once.
I spent last night with my daughter driving zeta 2 with her fingers while I played. Love it.
StudioCat > I use Windows 10 and Sonar Platinum. I have a touch screen. I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

YEAH you are right.. but then again when using the mackie control or the vs700 the track was selected when u touched a fader.. so.. anyway they make a point in the console view to touch when u want to select it..
