If TouchDAW or some other control surface could be effective on an Android I'd consider getting a Samsung Galaxy (after OS upgrade that is) as to me is the best alterative to an iPAD. Now, don't get me wrong, I think the iPAD is impressive, my mother has one and it is well-built and easy to use. I really considered getting an iPAD 2 when they came out but they didn't seem that big of a technology leap from the first version. I'm also curious to see what the Win 8 tablet is all about, so I've stayed on the fence. Lastly, I wonder if there would be a need to have the VS-700C if you could virtualize (and customize) your control surface on a tablet... It seems to me that Roland/Cakewalk should take this chance to create the next gen tablet control surface for Sonar on each of the tablet platforms. That would definitely make me buy a tablet. Tom

You do not have X1 and have clearly stated you do not plan on buying it.. So is there any particular reason why you are posting in the X1 forum?..

I found the ASUS transformer to be one of the best current gen Android tablets. There are two major advantages. It has a keyboard dock which allows you to convert it in to a functionally equivalent netbook. It is running stock Honeycomb 3.2 - no bloatware installed by the vendor which means that you get google updates potentially more frequently. As long as TouchDaw works with Honeycomb it will work fine on this tablet. I have it installed but havent had the time to try it out yet. I did chek it out on my phone some months ago.. I use the Splashtop remote desktop to connect to my PC from the transformer occasionallyy and it works fairly well. Another plus is that the tablet has a built in HDMI output for 1080P playback to a monitor/TV - useful for presentations on the go. The other tablets all require a dock for this.

Actually Noel the xoom has a mini HDMI output, no dock needed. We don't have android honeycomb 3.2, still 3.1 here but, coming and I think one of the posters disagreed about the ASUS tablet as being the best. IPad 2 vs Xoom no contest, IPad3 vs Xoom, it will be interesting. Hey Noel, do I get my free upgrade??? You haven't said yes but you haven't said no, as I posted early, I know the tactics of all the great's: Tony DeFries, Peter Grant and Michael Jeffery to name a few. I'm cutting edge down here in OZ, I have offered to look over your software, if I can get this to work, no crashes, I shall eat your shoes, how's that for a deal??? Finally just a word of caution, TouchDaw works well on Android Honeycomb 3.1, the Samsung Galaxy and all the Droid phones don't have this, so I cannot guarantee same functionality on these devices. Peace Ben

Ben says "the xoom has a mini HDMI output, no dock needed" Where's the extra 360P? John says "The ASUS ones are horrible" It's great that we have someone with "the rare opportunity to try quite a number out." ;-) The rest of us are probably going to have to stop in at Best Buy and try out 20 different tablets today, tomorrow, when ever.

John T I don't understand the relevance of "Tony DeFries, Peter Grant and Michael Jeffery" to the getting or not of free software. Can you explain? These guys all made ridiculous demands, (haven't you got it yet, I take the piss out of myself, yes I want the free upgrade but I am trying to do it with humour, I hope someone understands). Ok example after getting an extension on a loan from Warner, so Hendrix could continue to build his studio and remember, Warner were waiting for a new record, Hendrix was in the ****, hence A Band of Gypsy's (great record). Jeffery's had just secured a 1,000,000 dollar loan to continue building Electric Lady, he then said in that same meeting, I've got this movie idea, how much are you going to give me? Hence, I am being ridiculous in that, I am my own manager and I am trying to do business with Cakewalk, yea I am nobody, perhaps but I know **** and I know how **** works, I have a lot more talents and maybe they could be useful to whomever, this board is for all intense and purpose, an advertising space. But remember I am taking the piss, but if they want me to have a look at things see if it works because I have made creamware, vst wrappers and Presonus spidf all work together in tandem, I may just be able to make UAD, Laptop, X1 and tablet's work, then as I say, trumpet this because once again, Sonar still is the best mixing environment around. Ok rant over, you guys are in the US and I am always a little under the weather when your having coffee, it's no competition. Mike lest's not be too anal about these things, it's a tablet and the amount of times I am going to hook it into HDMI socket are not many, but on saying that you could low resoulution video for a live show off it, then we get into asthetic quality and if it's art, it's art!!! Peace Ben

The thing is, Michael Jeffery might have been asking a lot, but on his side of the bargain, he could offer up Jimi Hendrix. DeFries could offer up David Bowie. Grant could offer up Led Zeppelin. So yeah, these guys were asking premium prices for the absolute best of the best. That's not really the same as just rocking up asking for stuff for free for no good reason.

Noel mentioned he had a tablet with 1080P output and then it seemed like you (Ben) responded by saying that the XOOM has similar HDMI output. My Droid X phone has 720P HDMI output... as does the XOOM. 1080P is more better. I figured the "scientist" part of your interests would appreciate accurate data. I didn't know you were a Freudian clinician as well. :-) best, mike

John T, I know I am not The Beatles but i know "a" formula (audio engineering) I have average equipment (computer) but good other bits and pieces and I have knowledge. I also know how to make interesting music and now I will use another analogy, if Mozart (I am not Mozart) comes to you and as in the 1700's you had patron's, why is it not appropriate for me to ask Cakewalk to be my patron? Ben, I'm not trying to convince you that you want the extra dots.... I'm just suggesting that, as a "scientist", you might want to employ more exactitude when reading and replying to posts. I believe Noel's point about the ASUS was that it has native 1080p output... and it is still considered a "rare opportunity" to use a tablet with native 1080p output. Your reply seemed to side step that detail... so I asked where the extra dots went. :-) all the best, mike
