Touchscreen
How many of you are using touchscreens as a primary source of tracking and mixing controls and are you happy with the process? I have been thinking of changing from a mouse.

I use touch screen sometimes but unless it's a 28in screen I myself don't see touch totally replacing mouse or smart pen.

I use a 28" DELL all-in-one with touchscreen. Touch screen for mixer screen is pretty good (better than other DAWs), and touch screen for moving around other screens (scrolling, zooming etc) is also good. Touch screen for editing (piano roll) still requires a mouse (in my opinion)

I believe it's something like a consesus here that the touch-functions can not replace mouse/pen by 100%. The reasons are: ergonomy and screen size. I don't think I've ever read of someone relying totally on touch screen.

For me, in order to fully utilize a touch screen I would need it would lay in front of me like a desk at a slight angle like a real analog mixing desk. I would have a second monitor to display the tracks while the lower monitor would display the mixer and adjust plug ins. This is just me, I'm sure others are different. You can make anything work, The question is, will it work better?

Microsoft makes that type of active table, or used to. I'd have to check. But I like the idea.

That's what I do. I find touch supplements, but certainly does not replace, mouse/pen/etc.

If you have a tablet laying around you can use TouchOSC or Lemur to try touch control without investing in a big expensive touchscreen. My biggest problem with touchscreens is the accuracy when I first touch a control and how fiddly it can get if you do not quickly and smoothly raise your finger off the screen. Regards, Dan
Mixing is all about control. I agree. This was disconcerting when I first ran sound from an iPad controlling my Behringer XR18. I found the only way to make a small fader movement was rolling my finger up or down without lifting or sliding.

I've had the same non-touch screens for years. I'd hate to think what their surfaces would look like now if they were touch screens.
