[Track] A Chunk of Funk

A short mish-mash of sound culminating in a semi-funk/jazz/country rock/60's/70's/R&B type song, I guess. Lots and lots of basses. The ending is a bit abrupt but I want it off my wip list so I can play with EZdrummer which is due to arrive within the next couple of days. Enjoy.

Thanks, Brian. The drums are audio loops from Smart Loops from the Dry Studio Kit cd that I got from one of the Cakewalk email special offers. The bass drum was a little weak so I put it through an effects channel with a high cutoff at about 30hz and bumped it up a bit. The shakers are a SampleTank loop with their auto-panning effect synced to a quarter note.

    Hi,

I was suprised to hear that you used loops. They work well in the context that you have them. I was thinking that you were using DFH or something like that.

    Lots and lots of basses.

Yes Sir! Where do I sign up????

You should also mention that you play the lots and lots of basses very well!!

This [Track] got stuck into Sonar so I could play along. (Don't tell anybody...I was doing a big slap solo through most of it...had a great time!)

Thanks Don. This one was fun. Your stuff was already good, now it's getting really, really good. Starting to scare me man...

Fantastic track, nice playing there. This ones going on my MP3 player. This was a fun track to listen to, tracks like this make me wish I still had my axes so that I could just jam along, not that my playing was ever that good in the first place.

I'm glad you guys like it.

Brian: I prefer midi over audio loops so I can quickly add/cut notes and more easily adjust drum volumes. Because EZdrummer was on its way, I figured I'd better get my money's worth out of that Smart Loops CD. BTW, EZdrummer was waiting for me when I got home today and after quickly installing and trying it out, it sounds really good. Not as hard on the cpu as bfd or dfh either.

Will: Thanks. This one might be more fun to slap around, so to speak: http://www.donstrenz.com/FunkyChunk.mp3. It's the tune minus solos and most of the bass (left the low bass in). If you come up with a half-way decent bass solo over a verse, please send it over and I'll throw it in. I couldn't come up with anything.

Stuart: On your mp3 player.. Cool, glad you like it that much!

Seb: Thanks. Yeah, the sax.. I certainly do struggle (i.e. suck) on keyboards but had to shove something in there. Luckily, you didn't have to suffer through the butchered B3 solo I deleted. :)

    pfunque: Thanks, man.

Oh boy. I'm off to play with my new toy.....

Good stuff. I particularly liked the slide guitar, is that real or sampled. it sounded real to me. Good one.

Thanks, blipp. It's a Stratocaster and a glass slide, but each phrase was recorded separately.

Through powers of incredible deduction, I had to get creative with the URL for the tune. May I respectfully submit that this is what you meant: http://www.donstrenz.com/mp3/FunkyChunk.mp3

    Hehehehehehe....

Oh, you wanted it to be half-way decent. Well....I'll try. Mostly I was just screwing around. But it would be fun to play with. Except for the fact that this tune is number 73 in line of all the other things I've been asked to record lately. Sigh...

Wanna hear about your new toy after the honeymoon is over!

    Take care Don...

Oops, good deduction there, Will. I've got to remember to test my links...

A quarter-way or eight-way decent would work too. 73 things to do... C'mon, just hit the record button. I want to hear what that new bass sounds like.

Back to the toy.. You take care too.
