Track Bleeding

Yet another track bleeding post. I have read the other posts and tried the suggestions, and the track bleed has been reduced a great deal, yet we are still having issues. Our setup is like this: multiple instruments are hooked to the mixer, which goes to the line in on the sound card (SoundBlaster Audigy). Then we have a patch from the headphone jack on the soundcard to an external speaker. We have the soundcard volume settings adjusted so that in theory it should only record from the line in (everything else is muted). If we unplug mics from the mixer this reduces track bleed. So does turning the line in off. However the playback is still bleeding over slightly. Help!!!

edit: using music creator 2. i don't think it matters.

Are you recording the multiple instruments at the same time? Or over-dubbing once you finish a track? If it's recording a track(s) on subsequent tracks, see if 'WhatUHear' is on in the Windows mixer's recording properties. It should be off.

Thanks for your response. To let you know, all the levels except for "line in", both in the Windows XP mixing board and in the SB mixer, have been turned down, including WhatUHear. For some reason, no matter what, the playback ends up on the new track. It is very faint, and is mostly drowned out, but it is annoying nonetheless. Any other ideas?

turning the line in off where? what mixer are you using? you're not picking up bleed THRU the mics because of speakers connected to the mixer are you?
